Openers also have to face swinging new ball and it used to swing for long in those days. Bowlers were also better.

There is no one who minimized risk and built an odi innings at very decent SR than Kohli. Sachin at his best is no match for Kohli at his best anywhere in the world.

Those were ultra flat decks...  Even softie Barbie Azam scored runs on those pitches. 

SA pitches are best in the world to bat on in Limited overs cricket right now.  Hit through the line & ball travels coz of highveld altitude.

I watch cricket for entertainment. So Rohit is the batsman I love to watch. Don't care about the stats. Rohit would have scored two centuries in the last two matches if he really wanted to. ODI stats lost meaning the moment they introduced two new balls and all the rules that favour batsmen. Every batsman seems to be a stat-whore these days. They are so blatant they are not even hiding it. Even Sachin never looked so blatant.

Kohli can never decimate a bowling attack like what Rohit can. The double hundreds of Rohit when he suddenly decides to go beast mode , that is something Kohli cannot do. 

 

Kohli is a more measured batsman and one who plays the percentage game , hence he is more consistent. Kohli isn't without his technical deficiencies , he can't pick spin/swing out from the bowlers hand for instance. 

 

Rohit is a more gifted batsman who can decimate and demoralize opposition bowlers.

 

I'd personally watch Rohit Sharma bat more than watching Kohli bat.

Sharma has an extra gear that Kohli doesn't. 

 

That said, both are natural born batting killers, ruthless, the hard to get ('rare' is the word) players who can take the game away from you at any time, and in their own differing ways.

 

We are blessed to have both in the form they are presently in.
