What next for Team India?

Recommended Posts

World Cup 2023 is done.

Now let's move on.

South Africa tour is coming.

T20WC is 9 months away.

Its clear that we don't lack in ability. We lack strategy and were beaten tactically by the Aussies.

Dravids tenure is over.

Now we need a new coach and support staff.

Who should be the next coach?

What are the options and what is your opinion?

Ideally:

Dravid is kicked out

Seniors are dropped

A youngish core identified for 3 different formats with Gill, Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Sarfaraz Khan, Riyan Parag, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudarshan, Ravi Bishnoi etc. complemented with likes of Gill and Iyer

A cricket coach who understands modern game is selected and given the freedom to select his team. I would go with Stephen Fleming.

The coach is asked for his opinion on identifying the next captain, and hopefully a youngster is selected as the captain, and not KL Rahul

Realistically:

Nothing will happen and the 2023 tourney will be touted as a success with Kohli lauded as the Hero of the WC

Dravid's contract will be extended for us to torture with his ground-breaking strategies of playing SKY in Tests and Odis, and have 5 no. 11s in the team.

Along with Dravid, KL will be announced as the next captain so the "Dynamic Duo" of Dravid and KL can torture us with their version of "fearless" cricket, which would include 30 overs of anchoring in an Odi match

Kohli will play for the next 4 years trying to get to 100 100s and break SRT's 100 records. Likes of Gavaskar will orgasm with delight when BCCI organizes series with B'desh, SL and WI to allow Kohli to get to the landmark, followed by another failure in an ICC tourney

IPL will continue to change rules and come up with "Super Sub" to complement "Impact Player" so that nobody questions lack of all-rounders

No, we do lack in ability. And it took one Pandya injury to show it up. No TM has done anything about it because there's no decent backup available.

Other areas we lack ability

- Top 5 not bowling even 2 overs each

- No wicket taking left arm seamer

- No left hander in MO after Pant

Youngsters are there and these issues will resolve if we back them. But strategy is not the reason we failed 10 KOs under multiple TMs.

Pandya was replaced by Sky. When it should have been Kishan.

This isn't a choke SIF.

Choking is losing from winning positions.

This is a choke from a tournament point of view. Not match point of view.

Even Aussies would admit they were nowhere as good as Indians in this WC.

They just had to get the better of us for one day...and they did.

Rohit should retire from ODI's and focus on Tests till 2025 WTC cycle. Be available for T20's, selectors may pick him for 2024 T20 WC.

Virat should retire from ODI's. Focus on Tests & T20's. Younger and better fitness than Rohit.

However, even at this age these 2 are the most reliable as seen in the World Cup. Other guys need to step up.

Need to get Pant back as soon as possible.
