This is exactly why stat padding is so dangerous. It does not take into account IMPACT.

 

Example: can the captain trust the bowler to get them wickets in crucial situations at any point in the match?

 

You need to maximize your bowlers in their prime years and India always fails to do it and runs existing bowlers to the ground.

 

Look at Bumrah - conceded 15 runs in first over of world cup and couldn't be relied upon after first 10 overs. He is easily the best pace bowler in Indian cricket history.

 

Would Mitch Johnson do the same? NO.

 

This idea of stats needs to be put to bed if tournaments need to be won.

 

SKY who was carried the whole tournament failed in the only match where he needed to perform. This type of stuff was never the case with Bevan, Klusener and other similar batsmen.

 

I'm talking about Test matches

 

Bumrah,Shami,Steyn,Akhtar  have much better legacy than Johnson in Tests.

Did he enjoy success outside Aus/RSA? Most Aussies have stellar records in RSA.

Underachiever. Remember his debut against us in Malaysia where he blew apart our top order, before rain saved us. His bowling IQ wasn't that good, and tended to fall apart when attacked, unlike most Aussies.

Did the Hughes incident really affect his bowling??? I don't think so. It's just an excuse for failing outside those 2 test series. He was always good in bouncy conditions. He just isn't good anywhere else. Very average in Asia and bad in India. 

 

Hughes incident was sad but Sean Abbott who caused his demise is still playing ans actually is still part of the main squad.

He lost the lethal bouncer edge due to the incident. It affects everyone differently.

 

Was never good outside Aus/SA though (in Tests).
