Why is Jadeja playing T20s in 2024?

He has been made VC to ensure no one questions his place for the WC.  He will perform in group stages but will flop when we need him the most.

 

As mentioned in another thread, if Ashwin had at least played in either the one day WC final or Test championship final, he would have got Travis Head in at least one of those matches (or maybe both) & we would have won.

I see what you are getting at overall, but centuries and 50s are not true benchmarks. At the position where he bats, I'd be happy if he consistently made 40 (27) or 50 (35) in ODIs and 30 (15) in T20s, even if he never reached 100s or 50s.

For the number of years he has played and the position where he bats he should have scored atleast one century in ODI or a 50 in T20. He had opportunities. Problem is he starts very slowly and tries to score in the last 2 overs which is why he never scored 100. Heck Even Bracewell has 2 centuries. What i am trying to say is he is not a no.7 batsman. He is a no.8 batsman. Just because we have 4 no.11 down the order he became our no.7 batsman.  Remember we dropped him from the ODI side. Only after Kulcha went off the boil he came back into the side.

Ashwin didn't even do well in the league game he played. He's been terrible in ODIs for years. 

 

Even if he got Head others would have smashed him.

Yep more shows our lack of resources. If any of top 5 bowled we wouldnt need him too.

 

Better option than Chahal though.

Don't want these Jadeja/Axar/Washington at No. 7 ( and 4 bowlers after that)

Perfect. Don't need 4 pacers there. So 2 pacers plus Hardik and one specialist spinner with Jaddu/Axar/Sundar.

Last time he played in West INdies he was thrashed around by SHane watson lol. He played in Indian conditions. Picked no wicket in either semi or final. Didn't contribute with bat either.  Literally any part timer can do what he is doing now.

no that was 13 years ago. He's played recently in WI and did well in all formats IIRC.

 

In WC he picked highest wickets ever for Indian spinner in WC. In knockouts even Kuldeep didn't do well. Both created chances in final but there was no slips.

 

I'd love our part timers if they can do what he's doing now
