ICC considers repackaging Tests : Some suggestions from ICF

Plans are afoot to make Test matches more attractive and ensure the Twenty20 format does not destroy the traditional five-day game, according to IS Bindra, who will take charge as the ICC's principal advisor next month. Bindra said the sport's governing body was concerned at dwindling Test attendance. "We need to learn from our experiences and move forward," Bindra told the Week, an Indian magazine. "We in the ICC have had very serious discussions for the last six to eight months on how to repackage Test cricket, make it more exciting and introduce an element of competition. "It does not mean tinkering with the form but we are looking to bringing in more audience in Test matches." Bindra, a former president of the BCCI, declined to reveal the measures being considered but said the "the ICC was looking at ways to increase scoring-rates [and] have a world championship of Test cricket." These plans will be unveiled as early as next month when the ICC holds their annual meeting at its headquarters in Dubai. Bindra sidestepped suggestions that Twenty20 will spell more trouble for the 50-over format than Test cricket. "The future of 50-overs cricket is something that one has to look at in the long term." "For now, the ICC has laid a stipulation that all Test nations must play a minimum of 30 one-day internationals and 12 Tests each year as part of the existing Future Tours Programme (FTP) that runs till 2012."

ICC should be looking to put this in PCBs face who will not play a test match in 6 months, so it will be a full year b4 they play a test match.

They should bring back the Asian Test Championship. I'd rather watch that than the stupid Asia Cup
Second that

they need to have that Super Test every year. it didn't work the first time. but it should be good idea if they can have it one game every year or every twice a year may be the Best vs Rest 3 match test series rest of the world vs the Highest rank icc team of the year in 3 match test series every 2 years

I'm happy that ICC are addressing this issue(it's not a problem yet) and I also liked how Bindra stressed that the form/laws are not going to be changed. As a start, ticket prices the world over for tests have to be slashed.

Err.....isn't that the most important problem ? Teams have been able to pile runs (specially) in subcontinent like there is no tomorrow ? Its about time quality of pitches be increased in all parts of the cricketing grounds.

they have to come up with point system, even draws should have result, the team with more points should win. More points should be linked with aggresive cricket, teams scoring faster or teams taking wickets in a session, etc.

Test cricket is just fine as it is - they just need to fire all these moronic pitch consultants who have been dishing out one patta after another on a conveyor belt in the subcontinent.

Pitches need to be tad more juicy in certain areas. Also bad light cr#p must be addressed. Floodlights must be allowed. Its bull in certain situations when bad light is offered. Why not floodlights when the grounds have them. Is the red ball an issue?

So is the 50 over version really in trouble with the ICC members questioning it already after the IPL.

Good riddance to 50-50 (but amits is gonna take a flight and meet ICC executives to request 50-50 to continue :D)

50-over cricket is the best. it offers the best of both worlds. if anything in cricket has to end, it has to be the meaningless & boring 20/20

Telestra dome for rainy days...dont let a single day of Test be washed out or bad light etc. Then make good sporting pitches
