Pat Cummins even now does not have 20 FC matches under his belt . Only 14.

He didn't play a Shield game for 6 years before playing a couple and then making a Test comeback.

14 is infinitely higher than 0. Pat cummins didnt get to make his test debut while being a big fat zero in multi-day games.

Neither should anyone, even this guy can turn a ball 90 degrees or bowl at 170kph.

He had only played 3 FC ganes before debut.

Speed comes from fast twitch muscles, not technique. No technique can make you bowl quick if you lack fast twitch muscles. Fast twitch fibers can't be increased but their size can be increased by strength training. Technique helps in accuracy and avoid injuries.

No, speed comes from energy transfer. Ie, technique.  Different bowling techniques uses different energy transfer mechanism- the front on round arm action of Waqar is spring energy energy transfer. The Alan donald action is momentum energy transfer.

Anyone who says bowling speed comes from fast twitch muscles do not understand what fast twitch muscles actually do. Fast twitch muscles are irrelevant to bowling fast, because speed is not generated by explosive muscle power.

Sure. 3 games is experience. So my point stands- Aussies dont pull a Pakistan and give a net bowler with 0 FC experience test cap coz he bowled well at the nets. Same applies to Mayank. his speed is irrelevant to the fact that he does not meet minimum standards for test cricket, especially when the guy cannot even finish an IPL season without injury.

Its v.hard to be injury free for a 145+ kmph bowler, only lee and akthar in recent times were able to do so for large part.

tait, bond, styne, wood, waqar, archer, etc...  all had injury riddled career

But a bowler can not be a liability on the team with their fitness be it zaheer pulling out after bowling 4 balls into a test match, bhuvi pull after 3/4 over in a wc match or any1.

if they are not reliable to go through the match then its hard for TM and selectors to carry such player in the marquee events.

More FC or domestic matches means much more understanding of game and skills and able to bowl longer spells.

Not sure what was the extent of injury to mayank, but lsg tried to play him even when he was not fit because they were seeing him as sure match winner 2 matches 2 pos 2 wins.

As for his selection in domestic side, there are multiple reason on why he missed out. cricket was off for 2 yrs, plus del has string of fast bowler with two ind intnl (Ishant, Saini)how could one make a place fr them when bcci has instructed to play domestic and when intnl players are making themselves available no local board can say no to them. del fast bowling is stacked. new player can only get a chance when there is ind call-up for senior players.

even teams like raj. has to let go of bisnoi-ind intnl and akash singh -ind u-19, with age group cricket increased frm 23 to25 its getting harder for a 19-20 yo to get into main ranji side or first 15.

Akhtar ? Injury free ? What planet are you on ? he is one of THE most injured bowlers ever through his career. I dont think the man ever played a SINGLE season where he played even 80% of the tests pakistan played. IIRC akhtar missed more matches than he played even without his bans for cheating - in his career.

Which Pakistani bowler in recent times got his Test cap with 0 experience at FC level?

You'll maybe have to go back to Wasim Akram.

Even Shaheen and Naseem played FC before making Test debut.

Technically even Mayank has played an FC game

apart from bad knees he didnt had any major injury to back, shoulder, elbow . he was mostly out because of form, rift between him and captains and his own shenanigans

Akhtar played a long time ago but i watched cricket back then. I dont know why he was out- yes, he didnt have multiple back fractures like some did, coz the dude had the physique of an ox but the dude himself was flabby, party party man who was rarely fit and if you made him bowl 6 overs in a row, you can guarantee this 160kph bowler wouldnt be able to bowl a single ball faster than 145kph for his 6th over kinda dude.

But i do remember he was more often injured out of the team than in his team and i dont even think he finished a single 4-5 match series in his entire career. he didnt even finish most 3 match series in his career as well IIRC.

Man has bowled one innings of FC cricket in his entire life, that too, was the least bowled main bowler of his side and did nothing special. Then in recent past, couldnt finish IPL season and worryingly, had an aborted return from injury in midst of IPL itself.
Ie, serious fitness questions re: FC cricket and Mayank does not deserve to eat a spot for important Aussie series when he is more than likely to break down in middle of a match than any of the contenders in the squad.

Sorry, but a guy with kid level fitness chops doesnt get to get to the most demanding tour men play just coz kid can bowl at wowza speed.

I also dont see what is your hurry. He is only 22. He can cook for a couple of years, come in the team and pull a curtley ambrose and take 400 wickets at next to nothing runs.

And we are not short of bowling action either - we will have Bumrah, Shami & Shami junior as our 3 frontline pacers.
Thats sufficient, since i think we should play both the Rs in Australia.

Running out of full and quarter sleeve shirts, bottle caps, itchy nether regions et al might’ve contributed to a few missed games :hmmmm2:

Oh they did, but they were more of the extended period ones. I am reflecting more on the years you were just too much of a fatass unfit slob to finish series and you know those were most of the years of your career :)

Akthar played less than 50 tests and just over 150 odis in a span of 10-11 years , the major inhury he had was his knees which occurred before his debut.

The major brakes in his career were not due to injuries but the infights in the team and his own doing at times.

They dropped him in wc qf/sf against ind

First let Mayank play this full T20I series injury free and we can take it from there.

Exactly we would have a decent sample size if he is fit enough or not.

A competitive game is always better parameter to judge regardless of how great his net sessions were

Asking for a bigger share in the fixing pie didn't sit well with the tenured "Waderas", things turned sour @160 kmph.

Yep that would be step 1. He could travel to Oz as a backup perhaps. :dontknow:

If he looks fit in T20Is, Mayank will definitely travel to Australia for the A -team and play atleast one Unofficial tests there if the NCA clears him for red ball cricket.

If he does well for India A then he is most likely to be kept back in some capacity.
