Even in cricket, before BCCI flexed its muscles (and IPL money), umpires used to screw us over a lot....our players were routinely discriminated against. Common in hockey, even in our latest home WC. Check how Karpov was favored by FIDE against Anand in the 1998 match, or Kasparov's behavior in 1995 WCC with zero action by the arbiter. Only the strong are respected. Qatar may be a liliput country but Al Jazeera can shape opinion in so many countries, societies. They can steal FIFA WC hosting rights from a country like England.
