All of what you said has been fast changing.  And is not even the point of thread if you read the OP.

 

It is about absolutely abysmal conversion rates on big occasions after dominating so many tournaments that is the moot point here.

 

It is about the mindset on big occasions.

 

India has been the most consistent cricket team on the planet for 12+ years - our W/L ratios across tests, odis, t20s are much better than any other team - including Australia.

 

We almost lost the  match ( and yet another final ) if not for SKY's miraculous almost generational catch - given the stakes involved. 

 

Its okay to savor the T20 victory - but our goals should be much more bold, ambitious and ruthless as a cricketing nation ( and in general )

 

Some of the idiotic comments here on this thread are really dissapointing.

 

Some administrator refers to being a distant second to Australia as a " tremendous " achievement.

 

Why the hell should Australia continue to be the gold standard ?  This inferiority complex even in this day and age is very surprising.  It shoes a loser's mentality.

 

We have world cricket at our feet - players, resources ( financial and non-financial ).....given our massive scale and pool of players- our 2nd team should beat the hell out of Australia and RoW.  Cricket is the 3rd most popular sport in Australia,  distant 3th or 4th sport in England...same for South Africa.

 

We think of competing with China and being the next China....China was where we are 20 years back in terms of economic development - they had a ruthless winner's mentality - in all aspects of life including sports.

 

It is shameful how we continue to have such low benchmarks for success and how easily we get content with one trophy after 13 years.

I geneuinly felt that with India dominating, bangadeeesh doing well and Afghanistan doing very well Eng/aus/ wannabes might just quit cricket or play amoung themselves as it’s no longer cool. I was hoping sa would win some but this time felt India’s needed the win and almost apologetic we took it from wretched sa of all folks. That’s the level of domination in this sport. Anymore others would have started crying like how the English cried when India won the semi.

It is equal to CT as both come every 2 years. But yes we can call ourselves T20 World Champions. Aussies remain the real champions

plus he has overlooked the 2 Test Series wins in Aus back-to-back and a total of 4 back-to-back BG trophies. Not even the great WI teams of the 80s have managed to do that. Then there is the home record in Test matches that is to die for and holding the Test mace for numerous years. Compare that to our pyaare padosees record in aus for the past 25+ years .... A fan who is never satisfied unless the team wins a trophy and always insults the team can be called a "toxic fan" or a "bandwagon critic."

A toxic fan not only shows an extreme lack of loyalty but also brings negativity and hostility to the fanbase. They are quick to criticize and insult the team and players when things go wrong, creating a negative atmosphere.

A bandwagon critic is someone who only supports the team during successful times and becomes highly critical and derisive during losses. They lack genuine loyalty and are more interested in the prestige of supporting a winning team, often turning to harsh criticism when the team doesn't meet their expectations.

 

It’s hard to take the criticism of some so-called "fans" seriously. These toxic fans, or bandwagon critics, are only around when the team is winning trophies. They never stick through the tough times, instead opting to hurl insults and negativity at the players and management. Their lack of genuine loyalty is apparent as they are quick to abandon ship at the first sign of trouble. Such fans bring nothing but hostility and unwarranted pressure, making them a detrimental presence in the fanbase. True supporters stand by their team through thick and thin, not just when it’s convenient or glamorous.

 

It's really baffling that even after the team has achieved such a significant victory, some fans remain unsatisfied. It seems that for toxic fans or bandwagon critics, nothing is ever good enough. They always find something to complain about, no matter how well the team performs. This constant negativity and lack of appreciation for the hard work and success of the players show a deep-seated dissatisfaction that goes beyond reasonable critique. True fans understand the value of every victory and the effort it takes to win a trophy. Maybe it's time to reconsider what it means to truly support a team.

 

It's truly perplexing that even after our team clinched the trophy, some so-called "fans" remain unsatisfied. These toxic fans, or bandwagon critics, seem to thrive on negativity, always needing something to complain about. It's almost as if their dissatisfaction isn't really about the team at all but rather about drawing attention to themselves. No matter how well the team performs, they find a way to shift the focus back to their own endless critiques and complaints.

 

True fans know how to appreciate the hard work and success of the players, celebrating victories without feeling the need to make everything about their own discontent.
