That said given Rathore is involved I'm surprised Trap and Skeet shooting has become so blah. Cricket is also excellent atm - especially after IPL. Rest of the sports - not really. I'm guessing sports like Kabaddi in Punjab and Wrestling in Haryana are also awesome. Badminton is slowly getting there. My son (who's not that good) has played in a few tournaments. The grassroots is very healthy for Badminton as well. We actually need more elite level coaching for Badminton. Time to roll out the red carpet for some Chinese, Indonesians etc. to base themselves in Korea and build academies with them. True Rythm Sangwan , Palak Gulia all upcoming

Gopichand academies were good step but now we need to provide international standards coaching from early teens to a bunch of selected brightest players.

We need a high medal sport. Have to look at making inroads into something like Athletics for sure. Can try relays, hurdles and track events. I'm always amazed that we don't try to get ppl in High Jump, Hammer Throw, Discus throw etc. Our Paralympic teams are excellent in High Jump esp - I am sure we can really do something there. Get some long limbed ppl to try long jump and triple jump as well. We have a number of folks in those already - but they are just mediocre compared to world standards. Still more and more are starting to win minor tournaments around the world. Hopefully we'll start seeing more success there as well. Our performances in the Track events in the Commonwealth and Asian games are also very encouraging. National records keep falling regularly nowadays. Hopefully we are on an upward trajectory there. Ppl like PT Usha and Anju George are apparently doing a great job with the folks identified. neel roy 1

I know usa and Russ have advanced doping programs but still it shouldn't matter. We have plenty of different kinds of gene pools in India.
bharathh Posted August 2, 2024 Author Posted August 2, 2024 Subhankar Sharma has hit a purple patch and surged to tied 11th place at -4 in men's golf. Just 4 shots behind the top guy. -5 is T6 Gollum 1

Actually nowadays the central american countries have taken over events like long jump, high jump etc. I believe Cuba esp is amazing in it. USA and Russia are not as good as they used to be at dominating those anymore. Some African countries have also become good at long jump like Botswana. Kron 1

It was nice to see ppl like Guru Saidutt, Kashyap (in his academy) with Gopichand... hopefully, the stars of last gen can become super coaches for the next gen replicating what Gopichand did. neel roy and Number 2

Need proper coaching and facilities first then we shall see. Don't know why Judo ( and Karate) as a sport is not that popular in India because typical Indian parents do send their kids to Judo-Karate classes. I guess the typical mindset regarding Judo is just a fighting skill and will be useful for a girl in a country like India. Nobody looks it as a potential sport. Kron 1

Using gi and stuff to throw. It just doesn't seem logical. Wrestling is 10 times better for street fights.
