China wins first gold medal of Paris 2024 Olympics

China won the first gold medal of Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday as it beat Republic of Korea 16-12 in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Final at Chateauroux.

Even in Tokyo, Kiwis made us sweat, narrow 3-2 win for us. We later beat Spain 3-0,  Argentina 3-1, Japan 5-3 there in group stage. Of course the customary phainta against Aussies, 1-7.

Was okay till 2012. After 2011 Capt Amarinder Singh's son took over the federation as there was a massive money flow after Bindra's gold.

Bindra, Narang had their fair share of chokes/underperformance before clinching medals. Anjali Bhagwat, Heena Sidhu never made finals despite tag of world champion, world number one etc.

Hockey I guess we will make the QFs although nothing is a given. But knockouts would be tough to crack this time.

Btw in 2020, all 3 medals in 10m air pistol went to qualifiers who were rank 5-8. No medal went to rank 1-4.

 

If sarabjot qualified even at rank#8, he would have equal chance as the rank#1 qualifier.

Have to finish 2nd in group. QF against Dutch or Germans, I don't fancy our chances. At least with SF spot, we'll have two chances at medal.

Why are we so mentally weak vs aus in ko in hockey? How come we make it tough for other teams including Belgium and nedtherlands but not Oz????

All about peaking in finals. Saurabh Choudhary topped in qualification but finished 4th in final.

Aussies are too damn aggressive, we get rattled against them. Aussies don't want to just beat you, they want to give you a generational scar. Abilitywise they are inferior to Belgians, Dutch, Germans, just the mentality. They have won nothing major last decade or so.

Manu Bhaker has 3 events, hopefully she doesn't take too much pressure here. If she does close to her best, she'll medal.
