Ultimate_Game Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Have to say I've been surprised by SKY's captaincy. I thought he was pretty average in the first match as he persisted with Pandya and brought Parag way too late (in the 16th over) after Pandya had already completed his quota. But by the end of the series I must say that SKY doesn't shy away from taking risks and making bold choices. I doubt too many captains would've bowled Rinku in the 19th over and himself in 20th and that too when Siraj had an over left. Most would've played safe but SKY read the game and pitch to perfection! So far he has made his own luck and I like the fact he backs his part-timers and doesn't shy away from making intuitive bowling changes. Early days yet but I liked what I saw. Much better than Gill's captaincy in Zimbabwe where he barely bowled any part-timers or made any decisions which stood out.
vvvslaxman Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 He went with gut feeling. Bringing himself on was next level. Usually teams do this when they know the match is already gone. Bringing on a part timer. Travis head bowled in a match. But SL had other ideas lol But SKY has to explain why he made that move.

Not sure this will work against other teams even against SA under pressure. Khaleel killed the match for India. 19th over was a sign of "throwing in the towel". But 20th over move was interesting. Because Siraj their nemesis had one over left. Ultimate_Game 1
Sean Bradley Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 He was innovative, lead from there front, brave to bring himself on, except of giving khaleel the 18th over, he was up to the mark. Frustrated 1
coffee_rules Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 In the Post-match ceremony, he said that players voluntarily opted to sit-out for benched players to play in the 3rd match. If that’s true, this is welcome change from India . Sick of hearing the old “same team” adage at the Toss, a legacy of Dhoni/Dravid/Kohli/Sharma days. He also said he doesn’t want to be the captain, but a leader! Wah! Kya baat kahi hain Sir!!

That 20th over of SKY bowling ahead of Siraj was so out of the box. Showed he's not afraid to make a judgment call. Rinku and him bowling was a surprise as most captains would've probably bowled Siraj in the 19th.

Otoh, most captains would’ve bowled Siraj in the 18th over. Zaleel should be banned for life bowling 6 wides in that over, almost lost the match in that over. nitinbwj and Ultimate_Game 1 1

The only other bowler I dislike more than him at the moment is Avesh. Can't understand what the team sees in Avesh. Mukesh is much better than both and Harshit should be given a chance ASAP. I would even try Venky Iyer and Nitish Reddy ahead of these bowlers. coffee_rules and nitinbwj 2
tapandrun Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) He has only1 formant to worry about, he has moulded his game around it and know what it take to be top t20 player- what works what does not work. Hopefully he brings those experiences in and select and build the team accordingly, he does not have looming oversight of Rohit, Virat, KL where he would know he can do only this much. He got himself and Jaiswal who have intent and ability for T20is and are right now playing for teams cause lets see if he can bring more such players who can do +ive contributions or Ind again gets in some T20 accumulators. Kolhi and Sharma were 140 SR batters, if they were no good for modern day T20s who come someone else near to same SR be considered good for T20is then?? Next group should be an upgrade to Kolhi and Sharma not some1 similar, kolhi and Sharma, KL are allredy obsolete kind of player in T20s these days. Eng is not picking Root or some1 like him, Aus is not picking Smith or some1 like him, SA is not picking Dussen or some1 like him. Ind needs to bring proper t20 batters and bowlers.
