Time to acknowledge India cant play spin

Kohli's career against pace/spin in ODI's before this series

He doesn't take low percentage high scoring options even on wickets that demand such shots - sweeps, slog sweeps .

Also his major scoring zone is likely square leg to midwicket with flicks, glances and on drives being his main options against spin.

Kohli got out three lbws in a row. He didn't even miss a whisker. He missed the ball by miles.

That too when he already had a reprieve in the 2nd game. His dismissal was so predictable and we all knew what was to come.

Almost the same thing happened with him in our ODI series in BD (Dec 2022).   On slow pitches, he simply doesn't possess the skill to negotiate with the spinners.

Iyer flopped , he should be our klassen.

He was the biggest disappointment for me. I expected him to be our best middle order batsman this series as he's the best spin player amongst Kohli, KL, Dube etc.

Dube has the reputation of a spin basher but that's over-exaggerated and patently false. Dube can only hit average spinners and on pitches which tend to be on the flatter side. The moment spinners get some turn or pitch does something, he's useless. Can't use his feet and simply lunges for the ball rotted at the same spot. Doesn't deserve to be in the team and I would rather have someone like Rinku to provide some solidity lower down the order at 5.

Yup, He gets stuck on the backfoot and it's a matter of time he misses one and gets LBW. In his earlier days and at his peak a decade ago he used his feet and was precise in his shot-making. Now he simply goes back with no real purpose and intent hoping for bowler to bowl short. From the days of making Saeed Ajmal look ordinary, he has become a walking wkt against spinners.

How did u hv such high expectations from Iyer?    He failed in the home test series against no name Eng spinners & was dropped after 4 consecutive failures in 4 innings early this year.  He was replaced by Sarfaraz.

Sarfaraz should always been in Tests ahead of Iyer and SKY. Sarfaraz was averaging close to 100 over the last 3 Ranji seasons and him not being selected was a travesty and probably due to non-cricketing reasons as he and his dad have a knack of rubbing people the wrong way, and Indian cricket that's a big No No.

But I thought Iyer would be back stronger after the IPL as he always had the game to handle spinners and wasn't afraid if using his feet or attacking spinners. He was one of the few batters who actually took initiative in the middle overs and attacked bowlers. After Rohit he was the only one he did so. But was sad to see him fail and I guess we need to look for other options. Jaiswal should come in ASAP at the top, and also Rinku in the middle order and ideally Sai Sudarshan too. But that would mean no place for Kohli so don't think our selectors will go for it.

Quite an irony that we find it very tough to criticize kohli on an Indian forum such as this.  The moment someone criticizes his poor skills against spin, most of his fanboys start taking it personally & the discussion gets derailed.      On the other hand, our arch rivals forum PeePee' admins hv created a thread (last year) titled "How does Kohli continue to get away with such poor performances for so long?"

Don't take anything on that site seriously. They also have Umar Akmal vs Kohli, Ahmad Shehzad vs Kohli etc. threads. They've no understanding about batting in general and think Rizwan and Babar are world beaters, and think the world about hacks like Afridi. Heck, they even think Azam Khan is god's gift to humanity :giggle:

Kohli KL Iyer & Gill suck against spin. (Iyer sucks against anything & every thing.LOL)    Whereas Rohit, Jurel &  Jaiswal are very good against spin.  Don't agree with the generic statement that Indians suck against spin.

Inform opener should stay 25-30 overs in odis. Rohit approach not good for odis

Openers job is to lay a platform on which the middle order team can capitalize.

I'm not a fan of Rohit but I think he did enough to give us the initial impetus.

It's the other morons who need to continue the good work.

If you see from their perspective, the above 2 indeed are best of their cricketing system. Though they are at best Iyer & KL level. :cantstop:

Their other domestic batting "talents" are worse than Shivam Dube.:phehe:

Problem with blind worshipping.

People gets emotional and fail to accept the truth, partly ego issues as well as it means they will be proven wrong.

Everyone declines at some time, Sachin did too..so does Gavaskar, Kapil or any other legend. Kohli too is declining now, he may hit a purple patch like Rohit for sometime but he can't sustain it. That's why I am not in favour of both to play WC 2027.

Both should call off ODI's post CT 2025 IMO.
