even oldies like Rohit and Kohli struggle and the younger generation are even more atrocious.

We always will have some players who struggle vs spin.

Jaiswal, Pant, Jurel are good vs spin. Parag & Sarfaraz too are not bad.

On these type of wickets, barring mavericks like Maxwell or to an extent Pant, everyone will struggle to get runs.

We are still okayish on normal surfaces.

Most clutch innings under pressure in spin tracks both came from ganguly. This generation players are fodder against good spinners. 264 to win in kandy, srilanka. 4th innings chase in that era. . Ganguly not out 98. India win. It was unbelievable batting against muralitharan in that era. The other one was his 87 against saf in 2007. We some how manager to win that test. It was a bunsen burner in kanpur. He was MoM in both..

Also best keeper to spin was Saha. And Lakshya won.

Bong supremacy, just built different.

Asgiriya stadium was the old stadium in Kandy where cricket is not played anymore.  But it wasn't a spin pitch.  One of the toughest batting venues , arguably the toughest, at the time but it was a venue for swing and seam.

Yes vaas prasad was awsomme. But 4th innings chase against away in sri lanka is always tough. We got smashed the next test

Best keeper vs spin India has produced is easily Dhoni. he may even be the best keeper against spin i've ever seen.

Kumble fyi, was by popular consensus ( both in international and FC cricket), the hardest bowler to keep to, ever. This is because he bowled at a pace that was 20-25% more than the average spinner AND got a lot of bounce for a spinner. Standing up to kumble = hardest job and we've seen plenty of wicketkeepers fumble at this task. Dhoni, Mongia and Saha are the only ones who kept to Kumble well and of them, Dhoni had the best hands of these guys IMO.

The edge goes to Dhoni because he was a cleaner collector than these two ( even though i'd say Mongia was better than Dhoni at reflex catches off of spinners), which means he exerted a lot of pressure on the batsmen against spinners, as stumping becomes a much much more of a threat against clean collectors of the ball vs spinners.

Nothing against Sundar as a batter.  But the idea of sending Sundar up the order in an ODI has backfired almost everytime. (Not just today).   If they want to send a lefty early on, then Axar is a much better option.

Koi baat nahi.

Anyway if you haven't watched much cricket in recent years, Siliguri boy Saha is (still plays IPL) a great keeper......keeping to pace+spin, our best ever. He was damn good keeping to Ashwin/Jaddu, but Kumble was a different beast as you explained.

I keep hearing Shreyas Iyer eats spin for breakfast, lunch and dinner but always gets out LBW or lobbing a catch :hmmm: More than short ball I think I have seen him get out to spin more.

Today he got out to a pacer. Was playing spinners quite well but got out to a pacer :((

He got out to a pacer. I dind't see. I heard ball just decked back from nowhere. He is good against spin. Sure he can also get out to spinners. But he is much more assured than any of the guys we have because he has power game.

Not that we can't bat against spin, we don't select players for the conditions. We benched Parag who was all over Srilanka in T20s both with ball and bat, we went ahead with Doobey, forget about playing XI, Jaiswal is not even in the squad. Player who is fit to open in Tests and T20s is not fit to open in ODIs? Who makes these decisions? TM brains situated on their back sides.
