I get that. But my point is that for you to make use of these techniques, you have to get the foundations right for a better chance at success. Pick the team based on stats & analytics. Instead of picking washed up and senior players and then apply analytics, they should focus on getting the right players in the team. And then use other techniques on top of it.

This is the perfect time to make this change. Kick out the seniors, who're almost on their way out and put this analytics & performance driven culture in place before we build up new stars in likes of Gill. They're trying to make the same mistakes by pushing Gill in every format but they've the time to make system bigger than the players. If they miss this window of opportunity, it would be another 15 years of Gill and the next generation of undroppables instead of focusing on winning the trophies.

But that's my point. This Duleep Trophy is the first time I've seen ball tracking in a domestic tournament .

It must be very difficult to implement that at a grassroots level because it means domestic cricket will become expensive.

They could start using I Hawk cameras like they do in England which is cheaper than the full Hawkeye system.

England were using ball tracking to analyse batsmen as early as 2010. Famously , that's how they got SRT trapped by Jimmy for a few years.

And here we have managed to implement that in ICT only in 2021.

And that is only because we had a captain and a coach who were open to it. Not because of any BCCI administrator.

VJS was injured , Dhawan was opening under Shastri, he also got injured. Rahul was playing in middle order till Dhawan was injured.Losing one of the main batsmen who was money in ICC events  is a big loss.

What was the logic of picking Pant and DK when they didn't feature in preparation before WC

Nothing wrong in discarding Rayudu who was useless.

Then why did he play right till the WC and they didnt try anyone else?

Shastri got saddled with useless Dhoni, he would done lot better with different keeper.

Straddled? Why couldn't he call him out or atleast ask him to man up and bat ahead of youngsters in semis. Dhoni did as he wished under Shastri

He atleast did not try to tamper with pitch and lose to an inferior Aussie team which had no business of winning.

yeah instead lost to a much inferior NZ team and got blanked in 2021 WT20 winning only against minnows :nice:

Shastri was the architect for Indian fast bowling renaissance which Dravid royally screwed it in tests.

What he did in Gabba test  that too after 36 all out itself is proof enough of his  ability to raise the level of his team..

Our fast bowling was good only in Tests. In white ball he constantly ignored Shami in favour of Bhuvi. Even when Shami was in red hot form in 2019 WC. That's some renaissance.

Gabba was once in a lifetime thing where he was forced to play players he didn't like. We all know how he bashed Pant publicly and kept on picking Saha ahead of him.

But they had enough data points from IPL to pick better T20 teams. And knowing fully well that flexibility, multi-dimensional players, and batting depth was the key to CSK and MI's success in IPL, and Eng's success in white-ball cricket, we still managed to pick teams modeled on RCB :facepalm:You shouldn't need Advanced analytics to figure this out. And I'm sure you didn't need analytics to pick Pant over Saha either but we still did that.

Yes you don't. I agree that selection hasn't been ideal. But that's for very obvious reasons.  Some of the players are big brands and too many people have far too much invested in these players to not select them. And of course, there's the politics that's involved in certain selections.

Gabba was once in life time but Melbourne and Sydney were not.Melbourne happened after 36 all out. Last time I checked Shastri was coach there too. Fast bowling was good only in tests.

Shami was ignored by Dravid too in last world cup till Pandya got injured . that is to balance unbalanced team.

Aussies got kicked out in almost every t20 tournament except one including one at home. India had a bad tournament in 2021  .

You rather go with a useless player or drop him if you think he is not going to help even after giving extended run.

That's what has held us back. Focusing on and prioritizing the stars, and not the team.

When did he promote KL? Infact KL was playing since Shastri days and dropped under Dravid-Rohit. And immediately we won WT20 :giggle:

When India had Pant, he preferred Kela ove rhim as a keeper.

Kohli-Shastri combo were so clueless that they promoted Saha over Pant.  And benched Shami multiple times and continuously backed mental midget Chahal.
