They shouldn't retain anyone among capped players. None of their players is worth 18 cr. Arshdeep might go big in auction but there will be many pacers in the auction pool you can get at that price.

Two retentions should be among the uncapped ones- Prabh, Harpreet Brar, Shashank, and Ashutosh.

nah Arshdeep is their face. Must be retained. Not many Indian capped pacers will come in auction anyway.

Other retentions should be Ashutosh and Prabh

Among capped, they will surely get Arshdeep either through retention or through RTM. Risk of RTM is that the other teams might inflate Arshdeep's price knowing well that Punjab is going to RTM him. So they might be better off retaining him at 18cr. And if they do that, they could even consider retaining Rabada at 14cr.

The question they need to ask themselves is - if they want to retain Arshdeep and Rabada, are they better off paying 32 crore upfront or gamble at the auction for a possibly lower price

Rabada is definitely not going to be retained. Much higher chance of Livi getting 2nd retention if any.

Brar is quite poor too. There are plethora of SLA to pick from in auction.

They have Shashank and Brar as well. They might want to get back all 4. They'll probably retain Brar and Shashank, and RTM Prab and Ashutosh

Both are debatable. Livingstone had a poor IPL last year and significantly weakened their middle of order.

Brar did well and was considered as their MVP on multiple occasions. But that said, agree that there are many SLA options even if they don't get Brar

Shashank doesnt want to stay. Brar is not worth 4 crore. Ashutosh and Prabh should be retained

Livi was injured last year. I don't want to retain him too but if used well he's still quite dangerous. Plus can cover for a spinner spot.

Other than Arshdeep there's nobody they can or should retain. They've a few folks who did well such as Ashutosh Sharma, Shashanl Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, or Jitesh Sharma but none of them are like Jaiswal or Abhishek Sharma or Riyan Parag who're gonna be stars. This shows what a poor job Punjab has done constructing their roster. They don't even have anyone like Sai Sudarshan on whom you can take a punt on.

Unfortunately they have to rebuild and Arshdeep is the only one they should retain. The bigger challenge is to determine their identity and what should they focus on. Do they become a spin heavy team like CSK, or become like KKR who've batters till 10, or like MI which look to outbat teams etc. Looking at Punjab you don't even know what their strength is or who their core players are. They should work with a good scouting team to identify younger players and maybe target one or two established ones. Gonna be tough as talent wise they're the worst IPL team of all.

There is no such news.

But if they are planning to build for three years, they should go for Ashutosh. Shashank is 32, where the hell was he till now?

Last year Shashank told in an interview that he wants to play for CSK and was also seen talking with CSK management.

32 is not too old, ability wise he's very rare as an Indian finisher.
