No such instructions. Rohit in his post match itnerview did not say anything about that.  Even he is not stupid enough to say that given that INdia was 33/3 at onie point and added mere 79 in the next session. It is impossible even for guys like Sehwag.

he and Gambhir are pretty stupid, so I would not put it past them completely

There is no instruction. Rohit's interview has confirmed it. Besides it has never happened in history. Hunting down 200 runs in a single session. Even on day 1 it is impossible.

Lol.

So even plausible deniability is gone.

I think the Eng series will be the turning point for Pant. If he fails throughout that series, I would say that he has a case to be removed - but not right now. Anyone can have one poor series (even happened to SRT, Smith, etc). He does need to work on better shot selection: this is something he was good at in the past - scored at high SR via unorthodox, but judicious, shot selection

There is no question of removing Pant.

He is still our best test batsman.

Needs to be guided tho.

I don't think anyone calls for his head. But his genuine lack of match awareness was shocking to say the least. He has done it before in England in the WTC final.

Yep, I agree. He needs some proper counseling, not either getting blindly attacked or blindly supported.

Yes, so it's not a new thing. He needs to mature a bit, that's pretty much it. the rest of the fundamentals are in place. he looked more solid than jaiswal in 2nd session because his defense is actually pretty good

It looks real ugly in the current situation. I say atleast temporarily he has to factor in that he is batting with 2 of the sh***Iest batsmen in the world who contribute absolutely nothing to the same. So he has to temporarily cover for their ineptness as they don't seem to be leaving the secne

I think he should also bat at no. 6. it is better suited for him. let sundar come in top 5 and block somewhere

Sundar has to spit on the face of Rohit. I mean he gives his first over when the ball is 50 overs old. Then he hardly used him. Then he sends him to bat at no.9, no.10. It is as if he didn't want Sundar in the team.

think rohit may appreciate it

Will lying losers like @Frustratedor others ever admit this?

It was obvious he was given instructions as his attitude changed after tea.

@gattaca for your reference

Where is this mentioned any source ? Not even in the post game presser Rohit mentioned that. He mentioned Pant should choose the way to play  and he can’t tell to curb his instincts.

He needs to be given role clarity. What is his function in the team ? Is he a primarily a keeper who will be sometimes called upon to play an attacking innings to pummel the opposition ( a la Gilly)  or is he primarily a top order batsman who is an integral part of constructing a team total ? He cannot realistically do both roles.

Unfortunately the captain , coach and other senior batters have no credibility to be able to provide this clarity and guide him accordingly.

Andd it's not just Pant. Others like Gill, KL, Sarfaraz, Jurel, Akashdeep, Harsht etc also need to be given clarity about their roles in the test side. There is currently too much random shuffling for no logical reason in the setup.

yes, role clarity + stable batting/bowling position is important for all players. they should be flexible, of course, but they need a predetermined role.

this lack of role clarity is affecting not just Pant, but also KL, Sundar, NKR to name three.

Essentially the whole team is bending over backwards to fit in the two non-performers.

Nah he definitely said they were going for the total. Whether those instructions were still there on tea is unclear. I think they were

Either he is lying or covering for Pant's shot. He knew there will be backlash. There is no way in hell they batted post lunch like they had that in mind. Pant doesn't bat like that.

maybe the plan was to bat safely in 2nd session and go for it after tea

NOt possible 200 in a single session with a weak lower order. On a large ground like MCG it is literally impossible with all the feilders on the boundary.
