Jaiswal is yet to play an ODI. They may point to lack of experience as Gill and Rohit are likely to open.

SL is a much better venue as the conditions remain the same for both the teams. At Dewbai, the team batting second has a huge advantage.

Picking jaiswal in 11 will add more pressure on Rohit and Kolhi positions if they fail, do not think its going to happen.

May be Dube and Parag will be dropped and have jaiswal in 15 , and then add bhumrah in place of Khaleel.

My team:

Jaiswal

Gill

Pant/Samson/Rahul (wk) - pick one

Riyan Parag (RHB, OS)

Rinku (LHB, OS)

Nitish Reddy (RHB, Pacer)

Pandya (RHB, Pacer)

Axar (LHB, LOS)

Akash Deep/Harshit/Mukesh (pacer) - pick one though I would prefer Akash to be given a chance

Bumrah (pacer)

Varun C (OS)

Others in the Squad:

One of the backup wkt keepers mentioned above

Sai Sudarshan - Top order bat in case we need to strengthen batting

2 of the pacers not picked above

The team has 8 bowling options - 4 pace and 4 spin - and batting depth till 8 and even no. 9 can be someone like Akash who can tonk the ball. It's time we moved to multi-dimensional players instead of sticking to specialists which hasn't worked for us. Also time to move away from oldies. The team also has enough hitters and left & right handers to keep the bowlers on their toes.

Shreyas Iyer**

Hardik (c)

Axar

Kuldeep

Bumrah (VC)

Arshdeep

* Deseverse another shot at ODIs. He hasn't done well in 4 ODIs he has played. However, he averages above 50 in T20I, First Class and List A. He is in an amazing form in all formats he gets picked in recently. Can switch gears

**In good form. Can help stabilize if top order falters early. Average in ODIs: 48

I really think that Jadeja at least has to be left out. We are stuck with Ro Ko unfortunately and theres no changing that  . At least one liability has to be disposed of.

Bowlers

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Siraj

Arshdeep

Shami/Rana(if Shami is injured)

Allrounders

Axar

Pandya

Batters

Rohit

Gill

Kohli

KL

Sanju

Iyer/Jaiswal

NKR

Parag

I think this should be the template for the squad if not the exact personnel

Very important that one of NKR/Parag bat at #6 and Pandya etc. only bat #7 onwards .

Need that batting depth to have any chance.

Stopped reading at KL

Rohit, Kohli will make the squad unfortunately, but I really hope they call time on their international careers after CT and WTC (if we get there).

Realistic squad:

Rohit

Jaiswal

Kohli

Gill

Pant

Pandya

Axar

Kuldeep

Arshdeep

Bumrah

Siraj

Reserves - Samson, Parag/Rinku, Shami(if fit)/Harshit, Washington

In any era  especially post 2000  No.5, 6, 7 become the most important spots.  India has to identify the right players for these spots. They can arrest collapse and take home, they can capitalize on the start and maximize it. Lot more responsibility lie on the shoulders of these positions.  Jadeja definitely doesn't belong to this position. At best 8.

What we know for sure is that RoKo will be there, unless they leave of their own volition (highly unlikely)
