Same person didn’t have guts to drop MSD after 8-0 trashing as chief selector :hysterical:

True that. MSD should have been dropped from Test captaincy.

But as a player, he was still decent till 2013 I think. Got a 200 vs Aus in the Chennai test.. Was nowhere as bad as how Rohit is now.

Even as a captain he lost only overseas until that 1-2 series loss to England. That was a good ENgland side atleast battingwise. This bozo lost a home series to a tukka team like New zealand who got creamed by Srilanka and England.

Yes. We did discuss here about that.  TINA factor  was the reason why MSD was persisted as it happened during transition. ALmost all seniors left. We were left with Gambhir who himself was not consistent.

Sehwag,Gambhir were there. Sometimes you have to make changes just as punitive measure, even if temporarily.

Dhoni lost to Eng though it was a much better team,

Kohli in 7 year run never lost or even drew at home :hatsoff:

I think Gambhir was one of the casualty after ENgland series loss. Srikkanth lost his job after the series. Murali vijay rightfully took over as opener. Sehwag was poor as batsman as well. Both were not even part of the XI reguarly to captain the side.

This is not to defend MSD. This is to explain why Cheeka could not fire him as captain. There was nobody in 2012 ready for captaincy as their spot itself was uncertain. We had a thread called  TINA factor or something on this.

that way even Dhoni was underperforming as batsman in that period. He only recovered form in 2013 Aus series

2011 was a box office year for MSD upto a point. There was no way they were going to drop him during transition as we were losing the big 4 at that tpoint. It was critical phase. Almost everyone was early in their career apart from Viru/Gambhir/Zak/Bhajji. Zak himself didn't last long after that.  Yea.. his captaincy was pathetic in Tests. INdia had no real alternative at that point.

In that phase Dhoni was a horrible test captain, no two ways about it.

He was horrible. But i have to say Rohit has beat MSD in terms of horrible captaincy.  Even with GOAT bowling performances from Bumrah against a weak Australian , NZ side he has totally failed.  Losing a home series with Ashwin/Jadeja/Bumrah/Kuldeep/SUndar/Jaiswal/Pant  is the ultimate low point a captain can achieve.

Rohit is easily worst captain I've seen.

That's not true. Wait till we lose 5-0 vs Eng and also until we lose against Bang at home under his captaincy. We know it will happen, since he won't retire

When it comes to retirement, the great Vijay Merchant - about whom I have written more in the thread on Kohli and top 5 Ind test batters - shared his thoughts on the subject, which remain as valid today as it was back then:

Imagine bringing Umesh Yadav suddenly to this team in Aus now. Dhoni did that with RP Singh during England tour. He wasn't even playing first class cricket at that time. He had a big paunch and struggled to bowl early 120 kph deliveries.

R. Paunch Singh was fun to watch. looked like a village club cricketer, which he was at that point
