I am sure even the best of men let it loose in their private environment. But you can't do that at your job, can you ?

To be fair, he was making a quip under his breath . it was not intended to be broadcast to the entire world ! I am totally unbothered by this and more concerned about the fact that he is unfit and can barely run or hold the bat these days to say nothing of his on field captaincy.

I'm not saying pick average guys because they are well behaved.  But behaving well is an added responsibility once you satisfy the ability/skills criteria.

I don't see Rohit as being badly behaved. He made a quip under his breath which was just picked up and broadcast ( most professional broadcasters cut these out). In most situations he is pretty well behaved and conducts himself pretty well with the media and others.

My issue with him is that he no longer has the fitness or the cricketing skills to be captain of the Indian national team in any format.

He seems to be a happy go lucky guy, but clearly out of his depth/way out of form now! Now cricket is a massive business so he won't retire on his own :whack2:

Looks like Point 1 on the 10 point plan was to back TTFs and ignore domestic performers.

So we have likes of Rohit, Kohli, Rahul and Jadeja in the ODI squad as always but someone like Karun Nair who's on fire is ignored. Why even hold domestic tournaments at all? Let's save costs and announce the squad like a sarkari admissions list and once you're in you can't be dropped.

Feel for Karun Nair. Was dropped after scoring a triple hundred in Test. And couldn't get into the team despite averaging 750 in domestic ODI tourney! What else more can a player do? How do you even tell domestic players that their performances and domestic cricket matters? Simply cancel all domestic cricket and have a 6 months IPL instead coz that's how selections are done - IPL and PR!

That of course is the biggest concern but the guy shouts standing near stump mike on his juniors that "if someone walks lazily I will fck his mother". Tell me is this how a national team's captain can behave ?

Captains have long used agricultural language to command their troops in cricket. The Prince of Kolkata, Ganguly used to utter curses far worse than this on the field.

Ganguly had an outburst at his fielders using the choicest hindi gaalis during a tour of zimbabwe which was also caught on the mike. It was much worse than the one you listed above.

Sometimes this is an effective way to communicate with players from different regions and different educational backgrounds. It may not be to everyone's taste but this is the reality of how many people in India talk even in the very elite educational institutes and companies.

Pretty much everyone back in the day was fine using colorful language even to some of our biggest stars  :cantstop:

It happens in all teams. The Aussies are well versed in abuse. I am quite amused at people being shocked at it !

He has given up on his fitness, has openly called to continue to be the captain, had a surreal press conference in the middle of the 5th Test in Aus which was like a PR, is on record saying "12 saal mein toh yeah chalta hai" after being white washed and losing to an average NZ team for the first time in our history etc.

This is worse than being "badly behaved". This is apathy at best and insubordination at worst (especially the PR interview). I would take a misbehaving player over the one who undermines the culture of the team, which Rohit has managed to do. Take a look at the Test team which played under Bumrah and the one with Rohit in it. This is what Rohit has done to the team - made a high performing team an underwhelming and ordinary outfit.

This is a failing captain, and batter, trying his best not to get kicked out of the team, by all means we can complain about this all we want but this is hardly new. Dhongi used to dead bat these questions most of time when we were being hammered in 2011/12 away tours & then he started with that process BS. BRat used to virtually reprimand "reporters" who asked tough questions during his bad phase as a cap! The only difference is RGS has had captaincy handed to him during his final years, kinda like Kumble. The response of all of the last three caps has been total BS in their bad time.

Yes, Dhoni dead batted questions but he didn't give up on fitness. I would say even now Dhoni would be fitter than Rohit. And neither did he make moronic statements like "12 saal mein toh chalta hai". Or undermined his own team. Out of all the captains I've seen, Rohit's sense of entitlement and attitude has been the worst. Holding that press conference in the middle of the 5th Test was a joke and I'm surprised who gave him the green light to do so. That looked bad at so many levels and even the Aussie folks were flabbergasted!

He should've been thrown out of the test team post the loss at home, the fact that he wasn't shows how big/powerful the IPL nexus is!

The point about bringing the other two is that MS started this *ing tradition of the cap being more important than the team, BRat pushed that limit even further & RGS has just followed in their footsteps - in that sense Dhongi is the most "impactful" thug in the last 3 decades!

Yup the player power has gotten out of control. We've seen it get progressively get worse from Tendulkar to Dhoni to Kohli and now Rohit. Once you're a star it doesn't really matter whether you perform or not. All that matters is that you've the backing of your fans and IPL team.

Look at likes of @putrevus still shilling for Kohli despite Kohli failing for 5+ years and dragging the team down.

I never heard or read anything about it. Nor did I hear any players who played under him mention those.

it was the 2001 Indian tour to Zimbabwe. I heard it and remember it verbatim as it was a surprise to see Ganguly using that crude lingo while shouting at his fielders. Since it was  25 years ago, it wasn't in the age of memes floating on twitter and only memories survive. In the modern age, all these copies are preserved which did not use to be the case.

You have to be very naive to think this is the first Indian captain who uses this language on the field.

You can get angry on Dhoni for his clout outside of the cricket field but again he was an effective LOI captain. Better captain in white ball formats than Rohit and Virat combined. Virat possibly was the worst, there is a theory that the former kept Dhoni in the team just because he was such an unimaginative LOI captain. Virat most of the times fielded on the boundary when he was the LOI captain. Which captain fields in the outfield? Not doubting him as a Test captain as he was very good and brought the best from our fast bowlers but as a LOI captain he was nowhere near MS.

Rohit at least had a final appearance and a WT20 win under his belt. Shouting expletives on the field is fine as lots of players do, happens in the heat of the moment but the players need to conduct themselves well outside the field. Yes all captains had clout, people who did not watch cricket in early 2000's don't know how much power Ganguly had when he was the captain on the Indian team. He basically picked players he wanted in the XI. If you are a strong character and a good leader a little bit of clout is fine. What Rohit is doing now though is misusing it to a level which has never been done before. Also showing his frustration in front of public is ridiculous. He is unfit, cannot bat, has to hide on the field, overall a misfit to play cricket. Even if he slogs his way to few fifties in the CT 2025 I will have the same judgement of him. He should not be playing any cricket for India. Virat for different reasons. He probably is the first player who has become bigger than the game. No comparisons with Dhoni or Sachin or Dada or anyone in the past. Travelling in private flights, staying separately from the team, coming in his own vehicle to the ground, coming and leaving practice when he pleases, not playing domestic cricket even when you have been sucking for 6 years, all are high level tantrums not befitting of a player of this stature. Only sets wrong example to young players coming into the team. Hope we don't have players who want to emulate this "king" in these behaviours in the future.

There was a time when Virat was synonymous with inspiring Indian young players to be fit, giving their 100% on the field etc but now he is a bad influence on the team. Both Virat and Rohit are, they have become toxic and the BCCI aren't able to do anything about it. No other player in the past could pull off this sort of stunts and stick on for so long without performing. Dhoni at least had to balls to realise he is not a great Test captain and hand it over to Virat and leave. Virat was pushed out and Rohit will have to be pushed out which shows their attitude. Even Sachin shed his ego and accepted that he wasn't a good captain after 1999/00 season and never captained again even when he was offered the same in 2007. He recommended MS and said he is not interested in captaining again. Those guys might have been big but really wanted to do well for the team. These two are divas who just want to prolong their time in the team even when it means tarnishing their own legacies. At least players in the past played on because international cricket was the only way to earn money those days but these guys make millions in IPL, not sure why they want to hold on to the National team spot.

Apart from 1 or 2 of the points (and even then), I don't see the point of how any of these will magically fix 'CRICKET'

FFS, sack the short tempered midgit - only freaking win was against the mighty BD under him, drop the non performing senior duo, rest will start falling into place.

BCCI should enquire if there were photo shoots during 4 or 5th day of the tests.Because most of the test we have lost in 3 days.
