What i saw was one of the most shambolic fielding display in every aspect  1) Attacking the ball  2) Gathering/collecting 3) Throwing with any intent 4) Effecting direct hits everything was way off the mark. Indian men's team is poorer than Australian women's team.

On the flip side catching has been exceptional in this series. They haven't dropped a single catch apart from that sitter which Samson put down and taken some very difficult ones.

If we improve our run out efficiencey it will be a massive factor in tournaments. Most of the times fielding silently determines the outcome like Travis head's catch of Rohit, Guptill's brilliant direct hit in 2019 semi final, SKY's catch in 2024 final, Axar's catch against Australia.

Catching has been exceptional for quite sometime.

2022 World T20 catch success rate = 78 %

In 2024 , it was 85 % or thereabouts.

Donot have fast mover in the out field plus not too many who can hit the stumps directly if any.

Have mentioned this previously too, new player does not seems to quick movers, sundar is not quick, varun is slow, all now players may still be slower than jadeja and kolhi

From new players, Ramandeep & Rinku are quick movers and have good arm.

Tilak, Abhishek, Bishnoi can be classified as SKY level fielders. Won't call them lightening quick but they are definitely good. Axar is decent as well. Harshit is slower but has good throwing arm (kinda like Umesh).

Likes of Dube, Sundar, Varun, Samson, Arshdeep are biggest liabilities. Slow on the field, poor arm throw and even catching wise they are just meh.

Thats where likes of Gaekwad, Jaiswal have an upper hand. Even Kuldeep Yadav is an upgrade on the names above mentioned.

Kuldeep Yadav, Shami, Rohit are not even of the fielders they have to be for us to compete with Aus or NZ in the CT in the fielding department: to take athletic, diving catches like Travis Head, Ramandeep Singh, or Jadeja. Every player on the team should be fit and strong enough to put their body on the line on the field, not play football near the boundary cushions. I hope India's fielding is rightly exposed during this tournament.

Indian fielding always remained a sore point and to still look at Jadeja /Kohli (who are closer to 40) as our best fielders is embarrassing at the least. Fielding coach can only do so much, unless it is ingrained from beginning we will continue to see a very mediocre Indian fielding with some flashes of excellence.
