SachDan Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 This should be left entirely with Sachin to decide.We all know his ultimate goal as of now is to take part in 2011 WC and win it for India.So I don't think he will play ODIs or even test cricket for that matter unless he's extremely confident about his fitness level.He can very well ignore all the matches against minnows and be in good shape going in to the WC.

This is just like the Mahabharatha war where Lord Krishna was just present there and made his presence felt. You can't keep Sachin out of the game.... He still is the best player in the world. Your best player has to play right at the top. A mere sight of sachin hitting a scorching drive through the covers should be enough to demoralise any bowler in world cricket today.

diegovegaz Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 definately, he is being made to fit in the side he is not really required, as the openers are well settled and consistent enough, moreover the middle order is way too strong taking into consideration the inexperience of some players like raina, rohit or yusuf yuvraj and dhoni are able to get the team out of a crisis but, as it is been said for years, the presence of sachin always makes a mark and lifts the team spirit

CSK Fan Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I dont think what problem anyone has with this combination. Yes, Viru and Gambhir are doing well but Viru and Sachin are doing equally well. The failure rate is the same for both combination and the winning % is the same. Also, Gambhir's and Viru's form do not dip despite the changes. People are just discriminating against Sahcin just becuase he is a 'senior'

When all seems hunky-dory and Sehwag+Gambhir are making lots of runs, Sachin all of a sudden appears dispensable. But how conveniently all of ya have forgotten that it was this very same Sehwag who couldnt buy a run in 2006 and it was this very same Gambir who never went past the 20s against high-quality opposition at one point of time. Mere mortals like Sehwag and Gambhir will have their ups and down, rises and falls. Only God is ethereal. When Sehwag loses his form again( I am not hoping it will happen, I just know it will happen), lets see where all the cacaphony reg. Sachin's place in the ODI line-up is. However, as I've posted a few times before, It will be really interesting to see how Sachin copes up with this current batting line-up, which is fundamentally different from all other India XIs he has played for us. Till now, most of our batsman have been the typical subcontinental wristy, rely on timing sorta players. This team is not like that. Its more in-tune with the demands of the modern game, which relies more on power and brute strength. However, like he has always done before, Sachin will find a way to meet this challenge head-on. When people were asking him to be dropped from the ODI team after WC '07, he responded by dishing out one of his BEST ever calendar years in international ODI cricket. He will rise to the challenge again. On a completely different plane, I am not even sure Sachin has to play in ODIs, though I am sure he personally wants to. He still harbors hopes of lifting a WC. Its been plain obvious that in the last 2 years, where he's had 2 really good seasons in tests, he has played the least number of ODIs( due to injury and being rested). I'd rather see him score lots more test runs than ODI runs. But, thats a personal choice for him to make.

cowboysfan Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 i agree with op-i hate to see gambhir at 3.sachin should not be in this series at all.on the other hand sachin should play asl the opener in all the matches in new zealand where more experience is needed at the top.i hope they rotate the top 3 for the rest of the games.
