The schedule should have been such that it should not have clashed we with Asia cup . After Asia Cup is Aus A series, then our home season starts. Where exactly do you schedule the tournament then? Test squad players like Gill, Yashasvi, Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep, Harshit Rana, Easwaran, Akash Deep were all picked in various squads with Gill, Jurel and Easwaran missing due to injuries. Only ones not picked were Bumrah, Siraj, Jadeja, Pant, and SZ teams (Rahul, Sundar and Prasidh). Karun not picked as he switched teams. To me, South Zone not picking India team players and prioritizing Ranji performers was also an okay decision. Almost all zonal squads picked Ramji performers. Lots of youngsters - Melawar, Rathod, Andre Sidharth, Smaran, Badoni, Sindhu, Dhull, Harsh Dubey, Manishi. With so many pacers injured or not having played FC cricket, that was one big drawback. Two things BCCI should have done is to have a. more help for seamers and not prepare pattas in earlier rounds and b. live streaming for earlier matches (Final was on Jio Hotstar and it was a good watch) - for which there were hardly anytakers going by how quite this thread was for a match coming live. tweaker 1

Damn Did not expect this much detail from Google AI For the 2025 Duleep Trophy final, South Zone left out centrally contracted star players like KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Sai Sudharsan, and Prasidh Krishna despite a BCCI directive to include them. The South Zone selectors stuck to their initial squad, arguing that the national selectors should not be involved in zonal teams and that players could be included for India A matches. Other stars like N Jagadeesan and Devdutt Padikkal were replaced by R Smaran and C Andre Siddarth, as they were selected for the India A team against Australia A. Key South Zone Players Excluded: KL Rahul: A prominent contracted player who was left out. Washington Sundar: Another contracted player not included in the squad. Mohammed Siraj: A key pacer who was excluded from the South Zone squad. Sai Sudharsan: Was also a prominent name who did not feature in the final squad. Prasidh Krishna: Was among the contracted players left out by the selectors. Reasons for Exclusion: Defying BCCI Directive: South Zone selectors chose to ignore a BCCI directive that asked for the inclusion of centrally contracted players in the Duleep Trophy. Sticking to Initial Squad: The selectors decided to proceed with their already announced squad, despite the late directive from the BCCI. India A Commitments: Players like N Jagadeesan and Devdutt Padikkal, initially in the South Zone squad, were moved to the India A team for their series against Australia A. Argument on Zonal Selection: South Zone officials believed that national selectors should not have a role in picking zonal squads and that the BCCI should instead mandate Ranji Trophy participation for contracted players. Other Factors: Opportunity for Young Talent: The absence of big names provided an opportunity for younger players like R Smaran and C Andre Siddarth to step up and showcase their talent. Focus on India A: The decision reflected a broader trend where star players were either resting, participating in other series like the one against Australia A, or unavailable due to other commitments.

They are right partially. There is no point selecting experienced Indian players like Rahul, Siraj to play Dileep trophy but younger players like Sudarshan, Sundar should have played. tapandrun 1

If intnl players who had no or v.little ranji game time should not be included in duleep trophy, unless they are preparing for some series and there no other avenue left. Rnaji players deserver their chances in Duleep trophy. It like being selected from the best this season and able to compete top talent/players in Ind right now. And this is the only avenue left to make some noise about their performances. Duleep trophy selection is seen as a reward of doing well in the domestic for a season. But yes its purposeful selection --like Ind team is tying to look for 2-3 fast bowlers then yes select and ask zonal selectors give them a chance and let them play is a purpose driven requirement, but parachuting intnl player for no reason and cutting out some domestic player spot for nothing is not good Edited September 16, 2025 by tapandrun rkt.india 1
BCCISelector Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 Duleep Trophy should be the premier FC competition for selection into India A and India Test teams. Make it a 5-team round-robin competition followed by final. North East Zone should be playing in Ranji Trophy as one united team. The quality of Ranji Trophy is too diluted already.

Isn't Sudharshan playing for A team and Sundar in Asia cup reserves? Isn't that why SZ didn't pick them?

Sheffield shield starts soon too But the fact that the Aus A series clashes with Duleep is unforgivable really

ShoonyaSifar Posted September 23, 2025 Posted September 23, 2025 Disappointing to see Shreyas Iyer opting out of Duleep Trophy. You are made the captain of India A team and you decide to rest for personal reasons. Sounds strange and does no good to his claim for a test spot. ven if he has been told he will not be picked, he should have played.
