Teams will come up with plans always. Besides before 2020 we rarely played on such pitches. Most of our wins came on good wickets. Also they are batting on same 'horrid' pitches. Jadeja averages close to 40 and Ashwin has played many great knocks. What did Maharaj,Santner etc do Gollum and vvvslaxman 2

What did Maharaj,Santner etc do Harmer did play in 2015 tour, did ok (26 avg) but nothing close to Ash/Jaddu who averaged 10 while picking up 25-30 wickets each. Maharaj in 2019 lol Santner in 2016, even Rahane made him his plaything in Indore, 1/200, Ashwin picked 13 wickets in the same match. Overall got phaintas in all matches, Ashwin had an unreal series, 30 wickets averaging 15 where second best was Jadeja, 14 wickets at 25. Peak Ashwin-Jaddu duo was something else man, be it pattas, greentops or rank turners, they dominated everywhere at home. 45-4 home W-L, 18 consecutive test series wins, let us see who in the future repeats such a thing. vvvslaxman, Forward Defence and Manucrick 3
Gollum Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 (edited) Lyon was the only overseas spinner who had multiple memorable outings in India in our golden run. Came closest to matching our guys. O'Keefe, Dom Bess types had one good match, followed by phaintas in remaining games In Australia, post 2014 Adelaide, our spinners have been outbowling Lyon......even in his backyard which other countries' spinners are never able to do. 2018-19 and 20-21 tours being biggest examples, main reason we won those series is our spinners outclassing Lyon. But at least that is an apt comparison, Lyon is indeed a great bowler, he is number two behind Warne among non-Asian spinners in the last 30-40 years, Swann and Vettori behind him. Gollum Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 (edited) Once Jaddu-Ashwin jodi formed, from 2013 Jan till 2023 Indore test, we dropped just 2 tests at home. And mind you, with both playing, we lost just that Pune test. In Chennai 2021, Jaddu was missing (fractured thumb in SCG test) and our second spinner was Shahbaz Nadeem. Also mental fatigue played a role in the series against Eng, that came barely a couple of weeks post Gabba, and our players had spent many weeks in locked hotel rooms in Aus, courtesy covid. Sridhar talked about that in his book, not an excuse, just facts....Oct-Nov IPL, then back-to-back marquee series amidst lockdowns/curfews couldn't have been easy. Can't imagine what will happen once Jadeja retires. SUndar was brought in as a direct replacement for Ashwin. Infact everyone right here was saying the same. Here we see Markram bowling more overs than Sundar. They did not use Sundar in England even to give breaks to seamers. What is the excuse hwere where off spinners are turning square. Lord 1

Obviously Ashwin and Jadeja who played all their lives on Indian pitches will fare much better than a SA or NZ spinner on his debut subcontinent tour. The fact is both Ashwin and Jadeja are/were extremely dependent on conditions and mostly struggled in SENA. Successive captains and coaches were reluctant to play Ashwin in SENA and often went with Jadeja simply because Jadeja was the better batter among two ineffective spinners. I have higher regard for someone like a Kuldeep who is a genuine wicket-taker regardless of conditions (at least when he is in rhythm).

In SA conditions were such that 99% of thr wickets went to seamers. Maharaj hardly bowled last time. You dont expect dry tracks to be offered to Indians do you? With absolutely nothing for spinners. England and Australia are two places you somewhat got decent wickets. But Ashwin sat out 6 or 7 tests in a row in England.
