Batting at 8, those 30s and 40s are equally valuable when the number 9, 10, 11 are all basically number 11s.

Got to bat at 5 in England, hit a 100*, had specialist batsmen with him when he came in at 9, hit a 50.

He should not be seen as Ashwin's replacement, that spot has gone to Kuldeep. Sundar is a batting all rounder and should be seen as one

But he is made to bat at that position, no.7 or sometimes no.8. He should ideally bat at 5 or 6.

Sundar is a very good test cricketer. I like him there if he stays fit.

But I do not think he should be in playing 11 in either T20 or ODI.

He bowls well in patches. But has been more miss than hit recently. This is tests. His batting in tests is solid and we can get a good 10 years out of him there as a batting all rounder. But he is no Ashwin. Not concerned about his bowling as my expectations are not high.

Washington needs to be utilised more. That’s all I can say. He doesn’t need to be a shadow A/R to Jadeja. If you gonna play Jadeja ahead in batting order, then use Washington more with bowl.

One thing I feel India needs from both is to be more aggressive with bat and play impactful knocks rather than contending with a not out. Jadeja did it for long and Sundar also has ended up with quite a bit of not outs already. Instead play impactful knocks, don’t really like these 20s and 30s not outs.

not outs increase in lower order.
