Doesn't get to bat or bowl in tests.

But bats ahead of NKR in T20Is, picked for his defensive bowling ahead of Kuldeep.

Cluelesss TM.

Right now Washi is one stop solution for Gauti. He tries him first. ONly after finding out he is not useful he changes. It suggests Gambhir doesn't even know what hte strengths and weaknesses of his own players.

I wonder Gil and Gambhir are on the same page when it comes to using Washington. He is using him as a bits pieces player even in Tests where there is no over-limit. It is extraordinary feat that Washington managed to be an MVP despite this treatment.

They played 2 spinner in Eng test series , obviously one of them will bowl fewer overs.

and then comes the vs WI they are playing 3 spinners, one would get under bowled, any team or captain will bank on Kuldeep to clean-up wi batting and rest to be taken care by most exp bowler in the line up : jaddu.

Sundar is bits and pieces player and thats how he is been looked as. Can not rely to clean-up batting lines and may a good lower order batter.

This TM and selectors are taking this a project team, they are trying to develop each and every player, asking them to out play themselves.

Sundar , Reddy, Sai all are not so high potential players but they want to develop them , not sure if that is a good idea or not when there is such a large talent pool.

In white-ball Vipraj, parag, tilak all can bowl a bit and are better batters than sundar. No team plays an specialist off-spinner in white-ball.

But in current form Sundar > Jadeja.  Even stats prove that.

Sai is not a terrible pick for ODI though. He did well in SA. SUndar is alright for T20 as he can bowl in power play. Decent as no.8. In ODis he has no place. Reddy does have some potential though as he belongs to a rare breed. He is only 23. So he has time on his side. Paragh should ideally be part of ODI set up. Vipraj is yet to prove outside IPL.

Eng vs Ind both took 7 wkts jadu in 9 ins and sundar in 6 with nearly same rr. Its just who you want to bowl. Even if axar was there in pace of sundar vs wi series he wold have been under bowled its what happens when teams picks 3 spinners

He is a batsman who can bowl as a 2nd spinner, not bits and pieces.

Not sure sai's style of batting will be suited fr flat high scoring Odis pitches any more.

There is a reason why teams does not pick an specialist off-spinner in a white-ball team. All the off-spinner in any team is a batter. Sundar is just a waste of spot in white-ball cricket.

Yes reddy kind of player are not many but then they need him to bowl more overs, if he is been picked then as they are developing him ask him to bowl more.

Here is the list of off-spinner and think only Mehedi hasan (bd. intnl and not the the one who got ton vs Ind) plays as specialist off-spinner. In this list all are batters.

Aus :: Maxwell, head, short

NZ : Phillips and bracewell

Eng : Livingstone, Ali (previously)

SA : Makram

SL : Asalanka (he bowled for the 1st time vs Ind last year only)

Pak: Ayub, Agha, Iftikar (Previously)

Wi : Chase , Alick (bowled vs Bd as the wkt was assisting)

Afgn : Nabi(their power hitter and finisher)

Bd : Mhedi (is like their allrounder now), Mhedi hasan ****

Listed the off-spinners from top 9 teams apart from hasan (bd) no one is specialist off-spinner. A proper batter has to bowl off-spin incase needed. If Sundar had power game like nabi then sure pick him but he does not have power game to play as lower middle order batter.

There are better batting options available, even if compared to other teams players/batters like root, williamson(sometimes), head, markram etc.. bowls off spin even in test when needed.

The issue here is no Ind top order batter is willing to bowl

In T20 as a no.8 or 9 he is serviceable. Not in ODI though as you have to play longer and also finish well.  Sai will be back up for Gill/Jaiswal.  Ruturaj is another guy who they can try. Kishan due to difference with Gauti won't be able to come back. If Pant comes back he can bat at 4.

All are bad options, kishan is not even intnl quality. He pokes at each ball which decks away after pitching be it pace or spin and can not bat anywhere apart from opening.

Not sure of vipraj's intnl quality bt he should be picked incase they need 1 more spinner who can bat in lower oder, a leg-spinner with 4/6 hitting ability.

pant has played ~80 t20is he has SR of 123 or something like not suited for t20s and lack of off-side game will not allow him to be good mo batter. He has a template in test where he is good should concentrate there may be improve off-side game.

Rutu and Gill are almost same kind of batters, but now he is not even on back-burner for tm and selectors csk has stopped lobbing for him. They might change the captain next year. Prab, Arya, Vaibhav, Jaiswal the opener list is too big now.

he is. He batted in top order for his state. But is an AR not part time like Kane or Markram

His Fc batting avg is below 35 and List A is below 25. do not think those are the stats of an Ind domestic top-order batter

Pant is for ODIs. I am not talking about T20s here.  Vipraj is not good enough to be thrown in the deepend. He has mediocre stats at domestic level.  He is doing a specific job for Delhi capitols.  India even overlooked Tewatia who could bowl and smash in the end.   Besides Axar is like swiss army knife who they plug and play anywhere they want he responds reasonably.  So he will be ahead in ODIs. Arya, Prabh should come through T20s. Easier. Pair them with Abhishek.  Gill should be kicked out first from T20.

Vipraj just appeared with Upt20 doe not think he has played even 10 FC and list A, he is a leg-spinner who can bat a bit in lower order. Ind hardly has leg-spinner. Bishnoi is more or less an off-spinner and then Chahal and Chahar none of them can bat have seen chahar hit few 6s but he still bowls half tracker and regressed alot in his bowling.

Ind has to look for other set of wkt batters, all have short coming for white-ball game. Jurel and Pant are good for tests keep them there. Need wkt-batter for t20is and Odis.

May be ask Jaiswal or Arya to keep wkts. May be this way Jaiswal can break into white-ball teams

Yes its been a surprise that they never tried tewatia, not v.high potential player but can do the job in sc and sc like conditions

Sai Sudarshan and Padikkal played in top order with average of 40s. Sundar is an AR so that can be adjusted. He’s also performed under tough conditions whether it’s Gabba or the drawn Test in England

I don’t want him in white ball either

Sai and Padikal are not top draw batter of FC/test in Ind.

Its okay if they are developing sundar, but the reason Ind is playing with 3 spinner now is because tm and selectors does not think kuldeep is as good a batting option as Ashawin was and and they need a batter but none of the Ind batters are willing to bowl there is the spot/opportunity for Sundar
