Brook's counter-attack has forced Aussies to spread the field and now he can take easy 1s and rotate strike almost every delivery. Smart batting by him. If Pant learns to take easy runs when the field spreads instead of continuing to attack, he would be so much better.

Pant has something Brook doesn't. Rock solid defense.  Brook is doing it because he knows he can't defend his way out.

In the last Test they showed Boland's pitch map to right handers for a spell and every delivery was right on good length in a smallish square. Boland and Hazlewood can bowl on the same line & length the whole day if needed.

Against INdia Starc was a let down for them many times. ONe reason why we even won the Gabba. HE was taken apart by GIll, Thakur, Pant.

Yup. There's a reason why Starc was taken apart by Gill in BGT 2020-21 at Gabba and by Rohit in WT20, and you see batters successfully attacking Starc. But you rarely see batters take apart Cummins. If I've a choice of one of Starc and Cummins not playing against India, I would prefer Cummins stays away. Cummins is dangerous in every spell while Starc is hot and cold and can be scored off.

That was before Pant's car accident. Post his comeback Pant has looked quite skittish at the wkt. He has started getting out for 40s and 50s when he used to score 100s before his accident.
