Bhai. Mana Hindi (and I mean hyderabadi Hindi/Urdu) is accessible for all. But then people still feel the need to say (with their accented **** etc) that hyderabadi sahi Hindi baat hi nahin karte hai.

Hindi (the modern Hindi in essence is a made up language of various dialects)

There is no hard and fast rule.

You are right that usually we attach one of the genders..

But both ways are right..

 

Train aa rahi hai (generally in North)

Train aa raha hai (Jharkhand,  Bengal & Bihar you will hear this)

 

Both are correct though.

Mat bolo bhai...this tone comes in often now unknowingly. My team has a Marwari guy from Adilabad and one from Marathi-Telugu guy from Bainsa, they both speak exactly the same way.

 

Last year I was in Varanasi Airport, Frustrated with security delays I kinda called out on one uncle who was taking forever to put his luggage.. 

 

"Arey unkil line me lagke saman daalo na, baazo se kaiko ghusre"

Uncle became red with anger..."what do you mean by "daalo" ...whats this language. Is this the way you talk to elders" ?

 

I was confused for a second, then it clicked that I'm not in Hyderabad and the tone I used wont work here.

 

I quickly handled the situation saying "arey unkil my hyderabad se hun, mere udhar aiseichh bolte, mai apko gaaliyan nahi nikal ra hun, itna pure hindi nahi ata meiku."

But, I can feel the pain of average marathi man. In THEIR city, THEIR language becomes a minority. The backlash can be understood.  I can also understand the pain of Kannadigas.

 

Just imagine, if a 10 million telugus suddenly settle in Lucknow and start changing the language demographics of that place. You would have Akilesh ji leading rallies protesting telugu imposition. 

 

 

 

Except that the other language here is Hindi which is one of the two official languages at Central level. So one is naturally expected to use these languages to converse outside home states. Most folks don't have problems with English too but just hate Hindi.

 

If that is still a problem, states can make law barring Hindi and do everything legally. But that'll never happen. So this violence is the middle way.

 

In this age of AI language translators, these are petty issues that just make us look weak

Hindi is spoken quite extensively here.Even Punjabis try to speak Hindi with Punjabi accent with outsiders

 

Haven't seen anyone object to Hindi being spoken let alone beating them up.

Thats not the point

 

Gov business in punjab only conducted in punjabi. So why not hindi? Is hindi taught on state boards as a second/third language?

Gov. business in Mahrashtra can be conducted in Marathi. That's not the issue being discussed here

This is a petty political issue which will die down soon because there is nothing on the ground. 

 

But on a larger point, I think India's diversity and regionalism and to some extent caste can be a source a strength if its not discriminatory. Too much of homogenization leads to dilution of core identity and can make one feel disconnected. 

 

So, I am against this theatre. But in principle I do believe that the differences have to be encouraged and maintained to some extent.

Punjabi has more similarities to Hindi than what Telugu/Tamil have. 

 

It's easier for people to learn Hindi if they are from the north Indian states. 

 

That said , I've met people in odisha who know Telugu but don't know Hindi. But probably outliers. 

 

South Indian languages are totally different from Hindi in that regard even if they do have influences from Sanskrit creeping in. (quite a lot in case of Telugu) , not so much in case of the other three major languages.
