INS Vishal (in design) is around 65k ton only. Vikrant and Vikramaditya are smaller with only 45k ton capacity. Anyway Aircraft Carrier isn't the need of the hour, probably SSBN's, warships, P75I and Nuclear Submarines are the first priority. Mazgaon docks and Cochin Shipyard are doing great work.

China has become a shipbuilding powerhouse... Forcing US to make Phillipines and SoKo as its new Shipbuilding complexes. India as you said badly needs P75I deal signed as utmost priority now everything else can wait on Naval front. MDL cannot be allowed to sit idle and waste precious years. No need for another Air craft carrier with IAF itself struggling with limited numbers.

I think MDL isnt sitting idle...it's for sure working hard on warships, frigates and destroyers. These small ships are necessary to have distributed lethality. While Aircraft carriers work like a concentrated source of explosive power...frigates, warships and destroyers help maneuvering fast in the less contested areas and show Indian naval presence in the Indian Ocean. Even if we dont get the fund for aircraft carrier project, we should continue working on Anti submarine warships and smaller boats with rocket systems like pinaka, long range artillery guns. This is something which IAF missed I assume, even if they didnt get the new fighter jets...they should have continued pushing HAL to produce Su30MKIs and the long range BVRs for the A2A standoff strikes. MKIs are quite capable even now and somehow they are more "Indian" than even the Indian fighter jets. Can easily carry almost every Indian Missiles and radar systems. Though, I still believe situation isnt out of hand. Our capability to carry Brahmos gives us an edge in destroying enemy (Pooks) airbases...thereby crippling their airforce. While we should continue strengthening our Air defence with multi layer approach of Akash SAM, Barak 8, S400 (and in future Kusha)...while for Drone swamps our legacy guns and electronics laser guided beams are useful. We have a strong edge over HQ9 in that sense (though China would be trying hard to fix those gaps).

The partnerships and collaboration etc is different including raw material and equipment and skilled workers (most come from abroad). Manufacturing a warship/frigate is different from a sub. Only few countries have the know how.

That was mostly a surprise to them.. with air warfare constantly evolving we need to diversify substantially. Pooks would likely plug those gaps with Western and Chinese help in 4-5 years max (that's long it usually takes for integration of expensive radars and SAM batteries with their airborne warning systems. In short term their bases are at the mercy of Brahmos though and Scalp though. But every exchange is a learning curve. India needs Rudram 3 sooner. Edited November 16, 2025 by Lone Wolf

singhvivek141 Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 Russia has seemingly offered izd177s engine to IAF as a replacement for AL31 engine in Su30 MKI super sukhoi project. izd 177s has a thrust of 150 KN, which is more than the thrust of AL41 (140 KN) as well..but lower than AL51 which is going to be the engine of Su57M1 variant. It's costly, but will give raw power and agility to Su30, even it's maintenance turn around time is also lower in comparison to AL31.

singhvivek141 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 https://idrw.org/india-scales-akash-missile-production-following-successful-intercepts-of-pakistani-missiles/ Akash SAM production is increased to 100 per month, the new Akash 1S variant has 88% of shot-kill probability for a single missile and 99% for two missiles. Akash-NG SAM is also in advance stage of trials and may be included by next year. That will bump the range of Akash from current 25-40 to 70-90 km. raki05 1

It's our muscle and our brain at the same time. Every radar, missile system which HAL, DRDO, BDL is throwing at it, it's accepting it wholeheartedly. Unlike Rafale, Tejas, Mirages or Jaguars who have one or the other. While likes of Tejas are doing the airshows (no offence), this big bird is managing the airbases across the length and breadth plus the islands of Lakshadweep and Andaman, and we stopped it's production. Its not that easy, the frame etc has to take the strain of thrust. Engine size etc too an issue. Will be twin engine al51 replacing twin engine al31. Thrust to weight ratio hmm i wonder if 1.3 is achieved through this. Any aviation experts? In theory mki can do vertical landing. Useless for bases in ladakh.
singhvivek141 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 A discussion worth listening. Navy, despite receiving only 15-20% of defence budget has been ahead of the curve in indigenous tech and capabilities. raki05 1

We'll be getting the 12 jets (newly contracted) by April 2027...this is just to compensate for the lost Sukhois due to crashes. We need additional few squadrons of Super Sukhoi right from the scratch, hence my hope is that IAF orders HAL to build 36 or 54 new Sukhois right from the factory with upgraded capabilities. https://defence.in/threads/hals-nashik-division-to-resume-su-30-mki-production-by-early-2025-after-four-year-gap-first-delivery-expected-by-april-2027.11962/ raki05 1

IndianRenegade Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Nothing will happen, geo politically the situation isn't great get into another skirmish. India needs to work on growing, unlike when china grew & everyone actively helped it to, lot of forces are actively rooting against India. Unfortunately, India will have to probably resort to some unknown gunmen & bide its time raki05 1
