To be fair, the accident and other injuries have set him back. Physically, and emotionally too, I am sure.

That too but he did take the game for granted when he was on top. And there was no reason for him to drive drunk on that highway at night when he's a multi-millionaire. Extremely poor decision making and he's paying the price.

 

Now with Ishan Kishan and Samson improving so much and Jurel round the corner with new talents like Urvil Patel, Pant is no longer a shoo-in in any format. He needs to focus on Tests and probably ODIs. IMO T20 is not his best format and he better focus on the other two.

He's performed consistently all through in tests though he has had quite a few injuries and he has consistently been batted at least 2 places too high in the order. The issue has been in trying to use him in the white ball formats. Gill and Jaiswal have the same issue - high class test batsmen who cannot find places in the glamour formats. To his credit he is working at his game which is all you can ask from a player. His legacy is already secure based on his test career to date

No such evidence. He was driving home to meet his mother in Roorkee late at night in foggy conditions north of Delhi ( common in December/January) and lost control. Not the wisest decision obviously but there is no evidence alcohol was involved or that he even drinks alcohol.

I recall a report after accident that he was driving under the influence very early in the morning or late night. Can't say whether it was speculation or confirmed but driving on that deathly highway at that time is a big no-no.

I hope he turns it around and focuses on Tests coz he has the ability to get ahead of Gilly in that format. Truly a match-winner and has already played some of the most iconic innings overseas by Indian batters.

He was making a case for inclusion in ODIs as well before his accident. Recall his wonderful knock of 130 odd against England where he won us that match. But accident pushed him back a long way and now he has to work to get past KL Rahul, Samson and Ishan.

Since WC is in SA, I would back inform Pant over Kishan. Samson can bat in top 3 only

Ishan somehow finds a way. Still recall his knock in 2023 Asia Cup on that challenging pitch. SA pitches won't have as much help and Ishan is good enough to handle it as ODI pitches in SA are pattas.

Think Ind should Invest in new wk-batters in white-ball and create back-up for rishab in Tests.

 

Both Sanju and Kishan are not middle order or lower middle order batter, Unless they pick them as back-up wk and opener then there is no point of sanju and kishan.

 

Here is clear scenario-- If rishab is picked in wc 15, he is most likely be on bench and say kl retires/ or phased-off from Oids after the world cup,in such scenario Rishab is already 28-29 yr, Wc is 16 month away  so rishab will be 29-30 yr and by the next world cup he will be around 32-33 yrs. Now the question is, is it fair to invest in him for odi wcs ??

 

Or take some1 who is in form or develop a new set of odi wk-batter (Yashvardhan/Kushagraha) and give 1 WC on bench and by next world cup they would have WC exp and would have developed as players.

That was still an SC pitch. Bounce in SA would be different. Maybe he can bat 5/6

The problem is that T20 is the major focus for both the BCCI as well the Indian public. The team hasn't played any tests for a number of months and the next serious series is many months away. In the meantime it is T20 hogging the calendar so it will be difficult for players to switch focus solely to tests when they are in their primes in terms of age and skillset. On top of that with Gambhir now confirmed at the helm, I think more humiliations await in tests as well.

He might lose it all if his Test performances go down due to T20s. He's not a natural T20 player and has to pre-meditate a lot to score quickly.

If there's not much seam movement he'll be able to handle the bounce. He plays short deliveries well with a good pull shot.
