Tewatia can at least close games under pressure if playing well. Edited March 23 by zen
zen Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 First game is on 03/31 at Chandigarh against the Bhangra boys ... Let's start with a healthy win
Strangering Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Sai and Gill don't play quick enough. Even if they play at 180sr, the other team will play at 200sr on that pitch. You need at least one opener to be a bruiser. While both of them have played long innings in the past, its a weakness.

The Wolves have brought in Hayden as the batting coach to help them dominate on the batting front as well. In the past, they have been a strong bowling side so on most occasions could get away with fighting totals. Let's see how it goes this season. Every few seasons, teams change their approach. New players and the form of the players in general drive strategy and tactics. If only 2-3 guys show good form and others are struggling relatively, those in form will bat for more overs. If 5-6 guys are in good form, then the batting approach would likely be different. Edited March 26 by zen

The approach would depend on various factors - form, pitch, bowling attack, batting first, chasing, match situation, etc. GT (1 title, 1 final and 1 playoff in 4 years) has an overall record so the team knows how to adapt and win. More important factor is form of the players and if they are able to sustain it. Strangering 1
bowl_out Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Sai and Gill will open as they've done last year. No reason to change it. Buttler will come at 3. His form has been concerning. 4. Washington 5. Philips 6. Holder 7. Tewatia 8. Rashid 9. Siraj 10. Prasidh 11. Ashok/Arshad 12. Sai Kishore
Ultimate_Game Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Too many players not fit for T20... Gill, Sundar, Siraj, Prasidh etc. They need to kick out Gill and let Sai and Buttler open, and phase out Sundar too or bat him at 9. Right now too much depends on Buttler and if Buttler struggles, it's curtains for GT.
zen Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Wolves game tomorrow … Hopefully, we will see the first exciting game of the season
zen Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 First game impressions It appears as if Nehraji is being formulaic ignoring current form. At the end of the day, the game is about form and not big names, formulas, matchups, etc. How could you ignore Holder who had a great World Cup? Why would you play both Tewatia and SRK together unless they showed extremely good form in nets? Why leave Sai K, who is expected to come in as the pitches tire out in the later stage, out? I understand that Rashid is a leg spinner in the 11 but he usually bowls googlies.
bowl_out Posted March 31 Posted March 31 They need to find a place for Holder. Their middle order is non existent. And drop Shahrukh. Don't they have a better domestic player?
tapandrun Posted March 31 Posted March 31 (edited) This is a v.odd side. They have picked every possible Ind bowler who can make it to Ind side, not even a single batter apart from and gill too because he is gill. Looks like team to set-up to show that gill is best batter in the side , if not best atleast best Ind batter. Clearly telling tm is saying we donot mind if gill plays all the 20 overs no hurry and because we do not have many batters he has to play an anchor role. Whereelse most teams have opted for v.high sr openers ,even conservative teams like CSK have taken players like Karthik, Veer, and Urvil this is odd only 1 proper Ind intnl batter in Gill and Sai has just played 3 odis , if Jos does not open there is not 1 back-up opener Batters Shubman Gill Jos Buttler (WK) Kumar Kushagra (WK) Anuj Rawat (WK) Tom Banton (WK) Glenn Phillips All-Rounders Nishant Sindhu Washington Sundar Mohd. Arshad Khan Sai Kishore Jayant Yadav Jason Holder Sai Sudharsan Shahrukh Khan Bowlers Kagiso Rabada Mohammed Siraj Prasidh Krishna Manav Suthar Gurnoor Singh Brar Ishant Sharma Ashok Sharma Prithvi Raj Yarra Luke Wood Rahul Tewatia Rashid Khan Edited March 31 by tapandrun
zen Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 This year the tournament appears to be wide open. A team that hangs around in the initial stages to start playing well as the tournament progresses, peaking around the playoff could win the title. All GT needs to do is make some tweaks here and there to discover its best combination soon. What it cannot do is lose too many games early on to go out of contention where it could need some weird scenario to get in playoff - beat X by 40 runs, hope A beats B, etc. If a weakness is spotted, it needs to address it quickly. As unnecessary backing players (based on reputation or having invested in them) to eventually find form could backfire too.
