Where were you when the greatest Indian innings was played?

See now you guys would know how it felt for us 80s bloke . I mean in those days there were no cellphones' date=' no internet and radio wasnt allowed in the school. So at every break we would jump over the school gate and run to nearby paan shop to check the score. And when one reached home he would throw the bags and switch on the TV, generally to see either Sunny or Kapil battling for India with score 265/8![/quote'] I had the same problem while in school too. Cell-phones werent that common then. I clearly remember the famous Sachin-run-out, Ind-Pakistan Test match at Kolkata. We knew we were chasing about 270 to win, in the 4th innings and all of us were really nervous about our chances and keen to know our scores. So, we literally begged one of our teachers, who lived close-by school and used to go home for lunch everyday, to check the scores for us. And in fact, she did it for us. She came back from home, armed with a small, crumped piece of paper that said ' Ind 105 for no loss'... Ramesh and VVS had put on a 100 for the opening partnership and our chances were looking good. Alas, it turned out be a big anti-climax in the end!:((

Aha the Patna Gomoh line! Must be one of the slowest ever!! If I am not mistaken it is, or atleast used to be, a small gauge, chotti line as we called it in Bihar. That said Gomoh station has some weird, and extremely delicious, chaat that I have never had anywhere else. I couldnt help but laugh on that whole travel on sach of onions!!:hysterical::hysterical: That too Indo Pak Game. Priceless. Travel by trains brings so many memories. I once had this Combined Engineering Exams at Bhagalpur. Travelled by trains. Hotels/Retiring rooms were all booked so put down a newspaper and slept on the platform. In the morning stood under a hose pipe in my undies and was taking a shower when this train arrives on the next track and the "Mahila" boggy stops right by :hysterical::hysterical:
Train journeys in India beat everything else. :hysterical: I actually got lectured by some gentleman on the lower berth on my lack of 'civic sense'(as he put it). Why? Because I still had my sandals on while lying on the sack of onions on the upper berth and because his head was technically underneath my sandals, I was offending his 'civic' values. :finger: Gomoh station is quite quaint and charming in it's own way though.

I could write a whole book on it.:--D

Well no spicy memories attached with this series for me, besides the series itself. Was in grad school and didn't know of illegal streams at that time and was too poor to dish out the official TV coverage. Used to look for a ride to some distant relative's place every night to watch the games there and struggle throughout the day at school with sleep. But was all worth it in the end as I did manage to watch the 1st/2nd day of the Mumbai test, 1st/4th/5th days at Calcutta and the 4th/5th days at Chennai.

That was the time when all I had do was to watch match after match as ESS was virtuallys showing a live game everyother day...Watched that epic test live on DD sports at my home it self. The thing with a remote town like mine is that not many friends are interested abt test cricket...so was content watching most of the matches alone. This one was no different....Wat a turn around from RD and VVS.Unbelievable! And the good thing is that the entire test series was covered by Channel-9 production team and the quality of coverage was far better than what we are getting in NEO even after eight years. VVS' knock not withstanding,my vote for individual brilliance goes to S.K.Bansal who missed a clear edge by Gillespie off Venkatesh Prasad which allowed Steve and Jason to put on some valuable runs for Aus!

I had just moved to Aus and was still a student. I didnt have cable TV back then so I along with my friend went to the crown casino to watch it on the big screen. In the 2nd inning after SRT got out we left thinking what the hell is this Pandu VVS gonna do.. Baki we kept an eye on the score at cricinfo and couldn't believe what was happening. So went to watch the 5th day and got DRUNK. There were Aussie fans there and a lot of sledging was going on .. loved the result The thing that I remember is actually from the 3rd test, I was watching it at a sports bar and couple of old guys were sitting next to us. On the screen they were showing that after the 2nd test one of the Indian player showed :thefinger: to the Aussie supporters in the stadium... (yup both hands). I was expecting that one of the Aussie supporter is again gonna say "Indians this .. that etc " and the old guy did . he said "I dont understand what the fuss is about ...the guy is just saying its 1-1":hysterical:

Fantastic experiences guys!! I watched the entire 4th day of that Kolkata test, all alone in my Mom's bedroom as my flat was almost upside down during the packing of the all the household furnitures since we were transferred to Ranchi and had to move within 2 days. Every delivery was faced by Laxman and Dravid with a prayer on my lips. But I just couldn't believe what I was watching. At tea, I rang up my husband and brother to share what was happening and they were amazed too. Next day, I watched with everyone around and I just can't repeat the emotions which I went through when Australians started falling like nine pins. And how selfish do we get. Most of us knew that Gilly was not out in that Bhajji hattrick but we preferred to not even speak about it. The final test I watched in Ranchi guest house when when house was getting set. And the final day of that test was another heart stopper. But my experiences are not even remotely like Lurker's or Gambit's!

Speaking about watching live matches, the last hurrah was the Australian Series and dd.now.com fell to the corporate snake and the live ( free ) link was lost in oblivion I was without any Live cricket ( except cricinfo ) for almost 2 years and I used to go hunting to srilankan grocery stores to buy recorded matches. I felt like I am looking for drugs as I browsed through their basement stores with smell of fish So then I finally got the satellite and basically started the game of live viewing/broadcasting and highlights which reminded of old days But I think the Aus series was one of the best as I begged the other roomates to reduce their bandwidth so I could enjoy the distorted cricket match
