It is most certainly not a BJP introduced word to target minorities BJP is a bogeyman for even educated Tamilagans “‘Sanatana’ may not have been coined by the BJP, but it is undeniably being amplified predominantly by BJP supporters today. The real question is: why has it suddenly become so politically important after all these years? I closely analyze social media narratives, especially on Twitter/X, and observe how coordinated messaging emerges. From what I’ve seen, this particular narrative is being pushed almost exclusively by BJP supporters. That itself is not the issue. The concern is how some of these narratives end up creating divisions among Tamil Hindus, often portraying people with different cultural or political views as “pseudo intellectuals” or somehow less authentic. If people in Tamil Nadu choose to follow their own traditions and social outlook, that choice deserves respect. Attempts to impose a singular identity or ideological framework naturally create resistance. The sudden outrage around “Sanatana” on social media feels politically manufactured to many people here. Instead of accepting electoral setbacks gracefully and trying to connect with voters through governance, development, or policy, there seems to be a continued effort to mobilize people primarily through religious narratives. The perception among many is that religion is being used as a political entry point into Tamil Nadu. A large section of people in Tamil Nadu do not even use or relate to the term “Sanatana” in everyday life. That is why many see this campaign as an artificial narrative rather than an organic social movement. Much of the backlash from Tamil Hindus reflects this exact sentiment. People can sense when politics begins to resemble a “divide and rule” strategy, where communities are subtly grouped and polarized for electoral gains. Many believe the goal is to consolidate Hindus under one umbrella identity, assuming that is the only way to build political support in the state. There is also the larger role of digital propaganda. BJP has spent enormous amounts on social media and digital campaigns over the years, reportedly among the highest political digital spends globally. Critics argue that many of these outrage cycles and trending narratives are not spontaneous, but carefully amplified through coordinated online ecosystems. BJP spent over 364 million dollar which is more than US democratic party which spent 350 million dollar on digital media So the current wave of outrage is not surprising to many observers. They see it as part of a larger political communication strategy rather than a genuine grassroots cultural concern.” bsriharsha 1

I have many Tamil friends who are outraged when the bastard called Sanathna as dengue and malaria outside of assembly,. This chutiya face a lot of backlash then, there were a lot of court cases and even politicians like Pawan Kalyan spoke against it and he said those who speak of eradicating Saatana will be eradicated soon and evidently it happened for the DMK. So, this time he said it or rather slipped it at the end of his speech in the assembly, so he will not be faced with any legal issues. bsriharsha Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Sanghis don't understand Tamil Nadu and its politics. Tamilians think that Sanatana is an attempt to push North Indian Hindu beliefs down south (and the necessary Hindi imposition). If BJP wants to do well in Tamil Nadu, they should disinvest from that strategy and that diatribe.

He's provided an alternative to DMK and AIDMK. Doesn't mean his core idealogies have changed. most Tamil Nadu people don't care for religion when it comes to Politics. Tambrahms do but not Tamilians in general.

You have no idea why Stalin Jr said it in the assembly this time.. you can go aboutb name calling Sangihis, chaddis and reduce the argument to a binary. Sanathana is not a BJP coined word.. a lot of tamilians know about it, but silent because they are not heard in the mainstream politics, media and popular culture. It has become a fashion to ridicule these traditional Hindu words among dumeels Edited May 13 by coffee_rules someone 1

Hindu, indu etc. are terms coined by outsiders derived from Sindhu and Sindh. Sanatan and Hindu is one and the same thing just like Bharat and India. If in census 87% Tamils self declared as Hindu , then that means they are sanatani (I hear that large percentage is hindu just on paper, but a bigger percentage is actually Hindu/sanatani). These two card trick of creating an imaginary enemy and trying to polarize people against that enemy will fail to land here as people with different ideologies co-exist peacefully. WIthin same family. Look at Ilayaraja. He is a christian embracing hinduism, his son started praticing islam. They co-exist. It is not an issue. This fear mongering strategy of "All will be converted into christian" will have very little impact. LIve and let live is the general ideology here. Almost all narratives are about TN are carefully orchestrated by BJP's IT cell (where they spend millions of dollars). Some of the messages are exactly the same but different IDs. Easy to identify them. THey don't usually respond to your replies. THey will jut post and move on.

The the way, the word, Sanathana is abused, it is normalized with the anti-Hindu movements since EVR times followed by Anna in DK, DMK and the rhetoric against normal Hinduism in mainstream politics and media, movies, etc. So the young people millennials, genZ are used to this rhetoric on Sanathana and they think it is only about the caste system. They have no idea that Sanathana is not equivalent to the caste system as is followed by the rich zamindars who oppressed the lower castes. But the rest of the country know Sanathana is about their core beliefs and it is time to educate the Tamilagans. I think they use the word Sanatana to mean Shoshit, peedith vanchit alpasankhyak words used by North Indians. Edited May 13 by coffee_rules randomGuy 1

Women were already dead set on voting for him. They needed a reason. They also convinced their parents to vote for him. Without women votes Vijay was not winning this. TN had a record voting percentage 85% or something. Let us say "silent voters" who chose to abstain came in droves and voted for him. Bit like Trump effect against Hillary. coffee_rules 1
