Jaiswal dropped from ODI squad for England tour despite Afghanistan ton

Peciking order changes only for Jaiswal. He has to add bowling to his repertoire otherwise even Abhsihek will overtake him in ODI as he can bowl. Paragh can bowl. Ayush mhatre can bowl. In a one on one comparison between Jaiswal and Rohit for the year 2027 there should be no ambiguity.

On Ocotber 4, 2027 (starting day of world cup )  -

Rohit sharma 40 years  157 days old

Virat Kohli   38 years 330 days (almost 39)

KL Rahul 35 years 5 months old

R Jadeja 38 years 10 months old

Axar patel 33 years 270 days

Hardik pandya  34 years

Bumrah 33 yeras 302 days old

Mo Siraj 33 years 205 days old

Prasidh 31 years 245 days old

One encouraging sign is they are phasing out Jadeja. Otherwise i am looking at a very very old squad who deifnitely are not going to be at their best form. They keep feeding this "They will still be better than current crop" crap argument. We saw the dramatic shift in Tests and T20Is.  CT 2025 was a comical tournament where most teams sent understrength teams and pitches were spin friendly we could get away with old shami.  But when it comes to world cups this unit comprising old personnel are just not good enough. Sure shot early exit. India earned the tag "tournament team" in the last 4 editions of world cups thanks to our bowlers. This time rude awakening is awaiting us.

This team is too long in the tooth. At the very least Rohit should be kicked out. Even the Aussie ATG team didn't carry so many oldies and they were mostly in early to mid 30s. Steve Waugh was older and they dropped him in favor of Symonds. That happened before 2003 WC after Steve Waugh won Aus the WC in 99 and yet they dropped him. And here we're carrying fatso Rohit despite losing the last 3 WCs where top order faltered in knockouts (either SF or Final). Shows why Aus has 6 WC trophies and we're stuck at 2, and Aussies have actually won 2 out of the last 3 despite India being the better side of the two over the last 3 WCs and have 0 titles to show for it

These are the decisions which show what separates champions from the ones who're easily satisfied by merely reaching the knockouts :((

Pecking order changed for jaiswal in his favour -- tests--- Players like Eshwaran was supposed to be the next opener in the test , And rutu was playing all the A tours in white ball but now Jaiwal is 3rd opener in Odis. Its jst how it is rt. now in Ind crikt some time some player are on right side of the favour some time same player wont be .

Eswaran laid eggs in a lot of A games.  Jaiswal didn't jump ahead of anyone. He scored a double century and century in Irani Trophy final in March. Made his debut in June.

In the second innings he made 144  out of 246 team total. He was our then vaibhav. very aggressive and consistent.

Yes he was better prospect at that time so leap forgged multiple players, and now if there is any1 better than him comes along be it viabhav/abhishek/mhatre or any1 in any format they would leap frog him .

if abhishek will do well in list a +A side and gets a chance for Ind team and does well , then why not ?? and some1 does well compared to abhishek in any format why not that player?? Any1 doing well and provides few more options that sure that player should play for IInd

When Yashasvi Jaiswal is at his best, very few players are capable of leapfrogging him. The only exception might be Vaibhav, who is a rare talent and something of a freak phenomenon. As Jaiswal has developed into a Test player, he is naturally not as fully expressive as he was in his younger days. However, when it comes to temperament, confidence, and self-belief, he remains among the very best.

His role as an opener makes his job significantly tougher than that of many others. Yet, on his very first tour of Australia, he finished as India's highest run-scorer,.

Even at the Under-19 level, only Vaibhav has arguably produced a better final than Jaiswal. Jaiswal's performance showcased remarkable maturity and composure under pressure.

One of his biggest strengths is his ability to score both quickly and for long periods, a combination that is rare in modern cricket. In my view, he should primarily focus on the longer formats and stay away from T20Is.

Abhishek has already been tried in List A cricket, but he has often struggled with pacing an innings. In fact, Priyansh appears to be better equipped in that regard.

That said, all of these players are still relatively untested across a wide range of conditions. Their true standing will only become clear once they are consistently exposed to different environments and challenges around the world. Jaiswal already had exposure and did well except in SA .

Abhishek is out and out t20 batter, does not have a solid list A record , thats is the issue with t20 batters its hard to be good at Odis which req. strike rotation playing at high tempo. In t20 even if he faces 10 balls and score quickly 20-25 runs he has set a good opening already and if plays 22 balls its more likely he will score 50. But thiis is not how it wrks in Odis.

Not sure wht is this about Jaiswal and his younger days ?? he is only 24 yo. And he is the best test prospect in Ind rt. now.

But in t20s there are atleast 3-4 better options available to Ind , he should develop his leg-spin and may be play in mo in t20s. And anyways this is not necessary that he plays all 3 formats , Most here wants some separation between t20 players and test and odi players so why he is to pushed in all 3 formats when there are better options avialable.

Odis not sure , not sure what will happen to odis themselves in future . Asian games, asia cup, olpmps, t20i wc where is the space for Odis in all this  ???

Yes rohit is not retiring right now and how tm sees this situtation is makes alot of sense to not have jaiswal in the side , not sure why ppl are not getting this.

PPl trying to make case for him based on number when rohit has similar numbers, these are Odi greats they know how to score runs so they will score runs the idea should be if Ind wants to move on from Rohit or not , Look at Aus they moved on from Smith and warner who are still scoring runs in the leagues.

Even currently Jaiswal is not far superior than rohit and even his List A is the worse compared to rutu and padikal. The idea is if rohit is playing all the wc there is no point in having jaiswal as there will be no point unless rohit gets injured that they will ask him to sit out and in that case why not to add some1 else who can be slotted into playing 11 when there is a need. Initial they didnt want him to challenge rohits place in Odis and now the situation is if rohit is there jaiswal makes no sense , both can just open nothing else and then why carry 2 players for same role.

Where was this outrage when Jaiswal was not selected for world t20.Where is the outrage for him not getting selected to T20 team for England tour.

Ind has far superior options at opening slot in t20s

They have superior opening options in odis too.I would take Vaibhav over Jaiswal.

Jaiswal has a pathetic SR in IPL for new age player. He was batting along with a force in VS and could not do much.

Vaibhav has no exp. of intnl crkt, and the suggestion he is better than jaiswal in Odis is based on his performances in ipl/t20. He has played less than 20 list A games.

Can not pick such players for world cup , yes if there was some time to develop sure pick him but there is no time to develop some1 right now.Think Ind only has 20 or so games left.

At best vaibhav can be a wild card, but do you want to have a wild card in a batting line-up with just 5 batters ?? With Iyer playing on bouncy pitches , does Ind tm have that kind of confidence if viabhav due to his style of batting fails can the remaining 4 batter bail the team out. There is a strong case for viabhav as a wildcard when Ind has a good batting line-up and he gets the freedom to play like he does in IPL.

Yes this IPL season has done a lot of damage to jaiswal's white-ball reputation. It also not helped that ppl called that he didnt perform well because there was a better batter with him , what kind of excuse is that, if some1 better playing with him and he can not perform.

Right now no 1 can match Arya/Vaibhav/Abhisek <-- these 3 are diff. level in t20s/ipl. There is no point in comparing them to other.

But in Odis there are not many options -- Its jaiswal or a distant 2nd option is rutu. The thing is with KL and Kishan in the side they already double-up as  openers and mo batters. This is how tm and selectors look at this situation, they think both jaiswal and rohit can not be in 15 let alone playing 11. As they both can just open the innings and nothing else , tm thinks if they need back-up openers they have kl or kishan.

So in Odis its between jaiswal and rohit.

VS is the wild card and I would take chance on him if he does well in England and future series. World cup is exactly the place to take chances on guy like VS.He has no baggage with him of past failures.

A wild card in a batting line-up of of 5 batters is nt a good idea, if Ind can get 7-8 batters in the side including a wild makes more sense. A wild card+2 batter like kl and iyer really can be a quick work for a opp. with good bowling.

yes ind lacks fire power and it should be added but it also lacks depth in the batting ilne-up which is a big issue. even if 2 batters have a good day Ind would just reach a just par score. This was on display vs NZ/Afgn as well the acceleration never comes

They will have 5 plus two allrounders. So batting depth is fine to add a guy like VS.This guy has not clicked once in blue moon.He has led  all batsmen in all categories in IPL.There is no reason why he cannot replicate in international cricket. He will growing pains which have to be sorted out til Nov 2027.

Thats the whole issue here Jaiswal/rohit can only open and can not bat anywhere else, that is why there can be only 1 of Jaiswal or rhoit. they are doing the same 1 role.

Think, could be completely wrong here , if rohit is in the plans of the wc -- the team is not playing or selecting jaiswal because they do not want to challenge rohit's place and once the wc is near (1-2 series away) they will bring back jaiswal in the 15 and remove sundar.

The idea to have either jaiswal or rohit in 15 is fair enough, but Idea to have sundar in 15 is odd. Sundar is not bowling much does not have game to be in white-ball whats the point of him being in the team.

I don't think Rohit will survive till 2027 in ODIs. That is why people are pissed off at Jaiswal's omission. They cannot bring Jaiswal in at the last minute once they find Rohit is injured or unfit for some reason. At 40 years old with no real exercise routine can pick up injury even in nets.

Jaiswal should not open even if Rohit does not play.VS should be the opener.

Jaiswal has to bat at number 4.It will be nice combination of LHB ,RHB in the lineup too.

Have been posting this that Ind needs a LH batter in mo, makes the thing better and solid for batting line-up and do not have to rely on Axar for that  floating role.

But Jiswal , he  does not seems like a mo batter, list-a record says he does not  play at high tempo and then to play him in mo ???

For injuries to rohit, injuries can happen to any1 with age is just the added recovery time and plan to develop newer player in-place of waiting for ageing players to recover.

The odi batting line-up is not properly thought hence Ind is stuck, they have to add fire-power and depth. Only rohit is not the problem or only jaiswal is not the solution.

The batting does not have depth or fire-power. Ind is going with 5 batters that includes ageing rohit, kL, and Iyer who is not that good v.bounce even in Aus he did do that good , not talking about scoring its about being comfortable facing bouncer after bouncers, he has worked out a way for sc and sc like pitches.

think they would need to add Nkr to the playing 11 along with pandaya.

Jaiswal is a Test opener. One of the best batsman in the world not just India. Being an opener i rate him above everyone else in Tests for us. So his mindset shouldn't be meddled with by pushing him down the order in one format out of the blue. He is not Tendulkar who started as a middle order and convereted into an opener which is an easier job.

Rohit's position belongs to Jaiswal.  If youa re going to sai sudarshan who is not a great test match fi an extended run in Tests, why not Jaiswal. That is the point here. Ashwin on his channel brought up the same issue. Why these "backings" happen only for certain players. Sundar, Sai for example not all the players.  Sundar is a good test player. But not good for other formats.  Gill can easily bat at 3. I think in ODi that should be his spot. Look at Gill's Test record once he started batting at 4 which was occupied by an elephant. Given the fact we have more than 1 year to before world cup they have to review Kohli's position as well given his age.

At this point no spot of oldie should be a certainty.
