Gurnoor picks  4 of the 6 wickets to have fallen so far.

8 wickets in the match already on a super flat deck.

This includes three big guns Fernando, then both Ashen and Anjala Bandara.

Means he is lethal vs both right and left handers.

India A on cusp of series win which looked unlikely on day 1

Cleans up the tail now... 6 wicket haul.

10 fer in the match in flat conditions.

Gurnoor is a sensation.

Surely MoTM secured

And to think Gurnoor was not being picked by the Punjab state team.

There are so many other such pacers in many state teams.

ICF keeps saying let's get our real speed guns out into action .. and I kept saying let's try our tried and tested domestic players like Aquib Nabi or Mukesh Kumar. I think this is conclusive, let's now get Umran Malik on ... who can't get into any state team ...I think now that should be the criteria, no fast bowlers who plays for an Indian state team should be allowed to play for India ..

Even some posters were calling out his inclusion as part of some imaginary IPL quota... Anyone can become a selector by looking at excel sheets which are more often than not deceiving.

Those marathon spells in utter flat conditions vs Australia A were enough indication that this guy was ready for next step.

Thing is, state teams need to go and scout the bowlers who are tall and fast

1. A 5.11 - 6.2 foot bowler must be bowling 140-145k

2. A 6.3 to 6.6 foot tall bowler must be bowling above 135k and above

3. If there is someone who is 6.7 or above, even if they can clock 130k will be an asset which can be considered.

Short pacers who are less than 135k must have a strong secondary skill to rely upon. Without a solid secondary skill, the trundler shouldn't even be considered for any trials.

We need to discourage the lazy bowlers who dont want to put any effort in their bowling by running like a 60 year old grandma and bowling at a pace of 11 year old school girl.

Would urge patience with Sai as well.

It takes upto 4-5 years of investment to develop Test class batsmen.

That's always been the case - Ponting, SRT, VVS, Waugh(even longer), YK - the examples are numerous.

Even Gill had his breakout year only after 4 years of investment.

They should add Ashok, Mayank and Tarmale too in different A-teams.

Bowlers with a release point less than 1.9 m should not be picked at all. Prince Yadav's release point is too low.

And even if they are around the bare minimum, they should generating a lot of backspin and minimum 135 kph average speed to be considered for India selection.

So, states should be prioritising picking for such attributes instead of looking to win with trundlers

:phehe:

There are more than 100 of them in Ranji Trophy.

surely Brar has passed Nabi now for a Test spot,Nabi doesnt have the pace on flat wickets but should b considered for England and SA.

Thing is, even in Eng, NZ, SA, pitches are becoming super flat in the 3rd and 4th innings, in the last 4 or 5 years.

We already have 2 ace pacers, Bumrah and Siraj, who can take advantage of seaming / swinging conditions. Then there is Akashdeep.

But we are lacking the older Bumrah, Shami, Ishant of the late 2010s and early 2020s ... pacers who could pound the pitch really hard if the ball was not moving.

We need atleast a 3 pacer pool of HTD quicks for Away Tests. Gurnoor and Prasidh are 2.  Need another one.

Ashok with his action, I can feel that he can reverse the ball big time, so he can be the perfect foil to Bumrah and can fill the void left by Umesh.

Eden is another who can reverse.

The gap for 3rd HTD, either Tyagi or Harshit has to fill that role.

They have invested quite a bit of time in Sudarshan and Jurel.

Now is the time they may come good.

No point moving away from them now.

I do not see that happening at state level on its own. if at all domestic figures to be considered for selection, then the Ranji should have  a tiers system . Only performance against top 6-8 teams to be given weightage . Secondly create a panel to select  a   BCCI  team of say 4 teams and make them play all potential pacers /spinners in those matches at COE center . The best COE  performing ones should be recommended to be part of team for each state . If indeed these COE players are good enough they should be able to make a  break through . If state team does not play the COE recommended player, there should be a proper discussion and evaluation of the state cricket association's decisions.
