Anyone new from top order will take time to adjust to this new position if he hadnt batted tgere in domestics..

I dont prefer but given situation Tilak could be a better bat and fielder than Washington..he bowls too as a part timer not sure about his numbers though

Tilak Verma is not a big hitter except last 2 overs. We saw how slow he was as A-team ODIs.  And he is not really any kind of bowler.

The first requirement is someone who can hit big from ball 1 and can hit pacers too.

I dont prefer him tbh as I said too.. but when he is agressive mode down the order like in T20s sometimes have seen hitting well..when he tries to build innings he gets frozen or statpad..I dont like it..bowling is pure parttime..

I feel anyone looks to be an upgrade over Sundar..

How about Anukul Roy?

If its matter of 1 year.,can we try Shashank Singh..what are his List A stats..any potential??

found it

saw him bowling low medium pace in IPL and broke few partnerships..

not sure how he deals with SAF conditions but we will need to try as current options arent great either

Another option.. not in particular in lower order batter who van bowl a bit but if reports of Rohit playing last match in Lords are true then..

Jswal used to bowl leg spin.. he needs to be given ample opportunity to bowl..

wrist spinner always provides some opportunities..

with him bowling few overs..we can explore more options in the lower order

If Pandya & Reddy are injured. Bring in Shedge as an A/O in ODIs...thats when he wont be under constant pressure of getting mauled. Plus will help him as well to get in zone as a bowler.

If Washy isnt working, then Bring in Nishant Sindhu at no 6. May not be a brute six hitter, but wont be a total failure as well. Plus his bowling is a bonus. Parag is another solid choice at no 6 in ODIs.

This is a much better option than names like Rinku, Tilak, Nishant etc.

Bowling better than Dube.

Not a No.6 batter / big hitter yet.

Would be similar to Washy. With less experience.

This is the ideal choice.

ODIs ....

Can Abhishek Sharma be tried at No.6, in place of Washington Sundar ?

Much bigger hitter .... can hit pace .... can function as the 6th bowler.

This should be considered. Abhishek used to be a proper allrounder in age group cricket, that too batting in the middle order. I remember he helped India win an U19 Asia Cup final with the ball.

Rohit retiring is a good thing. He has been a great in this format, but his reflexes have severely reduced and he will likely not last another 1.5 years.

Jaiswal comes in as a straight swap.

Here is how I think the squad will shape up:

Top 4 - Jaiswal, Gill, Kohli, Iyer (Back up : One of Sai or Rutu, who can bat anywhere in the top 4 and 50-over is their strongest format)

5 - KL (Back up : I would like Samson, but the selectors will likely pick Kishan)

6-7-8 - Reddy, Pandya, Axar

9-10-11 - Kuldeep, Bumrah, Prasidh (Back up : Gurnoor, Harshit)

Batting till 8. Gives 6 bowling options, with two spin options.

On tracks offering no spin, Harshit can come in place of Axar or Kuldeep

The reason why I say this is because .... we lack flair in batting after No.4. If we lose 4 wickets, it becomes a matter of hanging on, with no batter whom the opposition will fear.

At one time we had Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina in the lower-middle order. Now, every batter with flair wants to bat in the top 4.

Abhishek is one option where we won't compromise with the batting to get in a part time bowler. And he has no chance of getting in the team if he wants a top 4 slot.

Everyone was all rounder when they were young. Even Kohli used to bowl.  In the u19 world cup final Jaiswal provided a crucial breakthrough.

Wish venky iyer were a spinner :) He is one guy who can literally bat anywhere in the line up.

Abhishek wasn't just a batter who could also bowl. Kid used to top both domestic run-scorer and wicket-taking charts by a massive margin, scoring hundreds for fun and taking 5-fers and 6-fers in the same match. He was almost the Shohei Ohtani of age group domestic cricket - an elite level batter and elite level bowler clubbed into one player. Jaiswal and Kohli were never in the same bracket with their bowling.

I know his bowling might have regressed in recent years due to neglect, so I'm not even expecting a Yuvraj-style revival as an allrounder. If he can bat at 5 or 6 and give 3-5 overs of part-time spin as the 6th bowler, that would do perfectly for the team balance. If KL can bat at 6, I don't see why Abhishek can't.

If he can just develop one variation in his left arm spin he will be bowling more regularly..he is muvh better option than other fake ARs

Abhishek's bowling is far more developed and nuanced than Rinku, Tilak, Jaiswal etc.
