1). I thought a lot more happens in strip clubs, and majority of money earned by strippers is from lap-dances...ain't it ?
Yes, lot more happens- but my ex wasnt into that and yes, lots of money from lapdances...lapdances here are very strictly regulated by the clubs- she will come, grind on you but if you so much as touch her shoulder, you get tossed out. So i was cool with that. Like i said, i am not an insecure man - as long as she came home to me and didnt get physical or emotional with another man, i was happy with that - there is nothing to a lap dance AFAIAC - and out here, chicks sitting on your lap is neither a very sexual or uncommon thing- hell, there have been plenty of times i've had a friend of mine sit on my lap getting home drunk where 4-5 are stuffed into the back seat of a car...anyways, you get the picture.
I know it is easy to earn the kind of money you are talking about, and I have done that too a few times in crunch situations, but these people were in far greater mess than you talk about. Their debt ran into several hundred thousand dollars or more ...something that simply cannot be re-paid with a side jobs like you mentioned.
Well maybe they should've thought about running debts that high. And like i said, money is easy-come, easy-go. These guys are college grads - they could've lived in a low-scale place, worked 40 hrs a week and that alone would give them a couple of grand to restructure their debt. Not to mention, dude doing side jobs, wife stripping, etc. will take care of that situation pretty well- yes, they'd be in debt for 10-15 years if not longer, but then again, i'd rather be in debt for 20 years than dead !

??? So I assume you dont own a credit card...
I do. Only use it for making big payments and pay back within a week. Use it more for convenience than credit.Have never taken credit more than what I could pay back next day.

>>>Easy to sit and point finger at them from the comforts of our luxury homes. Not everyone who has credit problems do it for their mother's surgery. Most people I know have credit on things they could do without. A cousin of mine changes his car before he has paid up for his previous car. He is always dying to get the latest model .He has a house(three bed room with a servant quarter) ,2 cars 4 airconditioners on credit. And he seems very proud of his capability of juggling his credit cards. He thinks he is very smart but to me ,he is the biggest ass going around. And BTW ,he works in the private sector. No job guarentee !

Good for you - beats the entire purpose of having a credit card, but good for you. Can you tell me what exactly do you have against credit card users who will say have 500 dollars on their card and pay it off in 10 monthly installments of 50 bucks each ??

I use it for convenience.I don't buy things I can't afford or atleast can't pay back in a short period. The only long term credit is a small home loan. >>>Can you tell me what exactly do you have against credit card users who will say have 500 dollars on their card and pay it off in 10 monthly installments of 50 bucks each ?? I have no problem .I only have problem with people who take credit irresponsibly and then kill their family when they can't deal with it. People who live purely on credit with no sure way of paying it back.

Ok, i am not familiar with the current ease of financial interactions in India ( i dont live there), but if you are into using credit cards only to pay it off in a couple of days, why not just use your interac/bank card ? Unless you are getting paid daily or something, i don't see the point of doing that with a credit card...the entire point of the credit card is you pay excessive interest rates just so that you can afford something today that you would otherwise need to save up for the next couple of months. Btw, the example of your cousin, affording air conditioning, cars etc. on credit card - what is the problem if he is making his monthly payments ?? sure, its a lot of stuff on credit card, but so long as he is paying consistently, i don't seea problem - and yes, if his private sector job disappears, so too will his luxuries...thats a given and i don't see why you have to be disgusted at that ? Think of it as him renting a car for 5 years and after 5 years, if he has paid rent, he gets to keep it- otherwise, he loses it...whats the big deal about that ?

What is a bank card? A debit card? Credit cards are useful if you have to buy tickets online or or big items. We have 3-4 bank accounts with varying amounts. With the card ,we don't have to worry which account has enough money. Just use the card and pay back from the different accounts. As for my cousin...it is obvious he is living a life that he can't afford. He has a house loan of more than 50 lakhs and about 10 lakhs + for car loans. If he loses his job....he not only loses everything...he will also have goons coming after him.BTW ,he emotionally blackmailed his parents to sell of a plot of land to invest in some business which he has already lost. How about paying back his parents hard earned money before he eyes the next fancy car? And BTW he has two daughters ...very young daughters that he has to bring up and educate. A single person can be irresponsible with his/her life...but not when you have to care about others. Everyday there is some news of people killing their family to escape debt. Most often the poor children(or as in this case..elderly) don't have any thing to do with the irresponsible behaviour of the adults concerned.

yea. Thats what i meant.

Oh i see...i understand now. I guess i do my finances a bit differently - i only have one checking account (where money gets deposited/pulled all the time) and a few savings account - which i don't touch unless its an 'emergency' ( which is surprisingly often in my single mid 20s life :D). As a result, i don't have to worry about which account has enough money or not ( coz its only my checking account that gets used for transactions- if i were to break my savings account, i can do it only twice a month and i gotto go talk to a teller in person). Though i am in big poop if my wallet is lost/bank card gets stolen- normally they will replace it right on the spot and deactivate my old checkings card but there can be times when i cant wait a day for the banks to open.

Ah i understand..and yes, thats pretty retarded. My biggest purchase on my credit card was actually 2000 bucks i put on it last winter for my new computer (and its going to be my airfare to India in a few weeks) that i took like 4-5 months to pay off...I do the kind of purchase where i can put 100-200 bucks per week towards paying off my card and i am all clear within 3-4 months at most and If i *HAD* to pay it off ASAP, i could probably improvise and pay it off in 3-4 weeks. But 50-60 lakhs is seriously messed up unless it is a house mortgage or something..
BTW ,he emotionally blackmailed his parents to sell of a plot of land to invest in some business which he has already lost. How about paying back his parents hard earned money before he eyes the next fancy car?
Thats pretty low but IMO parents take part of the blame in this - too many Indian parents will die for their kids and take these kind of life-changing decisions just to see their children happy and too many children exploit that. Sorry to say this, but your cousin is scum and if he were my kid, he'd be out on his hiney in the streets after first time he pulled something like that.
And BTW he has two daughters ...very young daughters that he has to bring up and educate. A single person can be irresponsible with his/her life...but not when you have to care about others.
Oh man, i havnt met this guy and i already hate him :D Yes, i agree completely. I am not single and i've had the 'talk' of kids with my girlfriend- and we both agreed that we arnt ready- we are too irresponsible (financially, routine-wise and setting examples, etc) to have kids..if we did have kids now, our kid would be the kind who'd end up getting pregnant at 15 and living like trailer-trash...so we decieded to put it off for the future- until such a time when we are both ready (and if we are still together) to be responsible parents.
Everyday there is some news of people killing their family to escape debt
That is the part i can't personally relate to. I'd rather do anything than die - so long as it isnt abusing or hurting others. Hell, we are both 'skilled' people who can find jobs in a million-and-one ways, but even if we were total idiots, i'd rather suck some knob and have my girlfriend whoring herself before we killed ourselves...life is too precious to just throw away/end it without a fight.

When people go bonkers on their credit cards, they make one massive assumption, which is that they will always get an income to pay off the credit card interests. In today's world, thats one big assumption to make!

The names seems to be South Indian. With a family like that, one can't expect the guy to get his wife strip in front of others for money. There are lot of other avenues other than selling your bodies for sex/exhibition to make money. Go to a unemployment office and ask for any job that you can get with your skill set. Work in a library, or a checkout counter in a grocery store, .

True. IMO its all relative to how much you are making and how much you owe. If you owe a dozen thousand or so, then yes, working as a librarian after office or grocery store etc. will be fine. But if you are qualified ( say an IT guy) but you got a 60 lakh debt to pay off pronto, chances are, whatever you land as a part time job will be chump change compared to your day job and therefore, will hardly make a dent. In such a scenario, stripping/prostitution might be the only option to pay off your debt in a reasonable time ( few years?) because those professions do have an extremely high pay rate ( nevermind the semi-literate suave prostitutes who cater to the CEOs, a decent looking & young street prostitute will easily earn more than an IT guy in california).

well...It is cool not to depend on credit cards....but not so cool to 'not have any credit card' coz the banks do credit checks while providing mortgages...good credit can only be established if you have credit cards which are used and paid on a regular basis. I had a client who had $80,000 cash as down payment for buying a house worth $550,000....never had any debts, failed to qualify bcoz he did not have any credit history..:((
