i think wasim needs a pat on his back for this... not because he has defended india, but because he acknowledges what a number of pakistani supporters are oblivious to: hayden's comments were intended to be a snub rather than an observation. had hayden been reflecting upon the plight of minorities in india, or the economic divide, or our cultural troubles due to the archaic caste system, then his remarks would have inspired appreciation since he would be presenting a social commentary on india. however, that was certainly not the context in which he spoke those words, and he could just as easily use them against pakistan, sri lanka or bangladesh. pitifully, instead of uniting as a front against such blatant rascism by a sore loser, as we did in the case of the darrel hairgate, the division of the south asian boards is only going to encourage this ****.

Had Hayden made this comment in his book later on referring to the slow over rate incident, then it would have been a different case. However - here he makes this remark as soon as he returns to Sydney. And he made a similar comment on radio about Bajji when we went there. He calls himself a guy who focusses himself with all that meditate on the pitch drama and he could not keep his tongue in check. Thats terrible for a 37 year old. How on earth CA picks guys like this to represent their country - its beyond my imagination. If their over rate was really affected by the sight screen problems in the third world country, lets see how they fare during the coming NZ , SAF series in Australia and later the series in SAF and Ashes. None of these going to played in the so called Third world countries. Lets see what Hayden says whenn he comes to play the Champions League or later the IPL? That would be interesting

I am surprised people are ranting about Hayden and his comments. Mind you , He has NOT offered this as an excuse for being thrashed 0-2, but he has given this as a reason for the slow over rates alone. As I mentioned in my post earlier on this thread ....referring to India as a "3rd world country" is certainly mean...IF it was meant as a deragatory reference. But Hayden was in fact pointing out to facts...India IS a country where such things happen, and why is it no one refers to the fact it rarely, if at all, happens in Eng, Aus, NZ SA etc. Let me repeat...this issue is straightforward....Hayden was NOT attempting to cocer up for the 0-2 defeat, unless anyone has evidence to the contrary....he was merely trying to partially explain poor over rate, and he was supporting his captain Ponting , during trying times...nothing wrong. In fact, if at all anyone has a valid argument against Hayden, it has to be along the following lines : It is to the advantage of the bowling side when a fast bowler has bowled 4 balls and the sight screen has to be moved.....on a hot day, the fast bowler regains breath, the batter has to concentrate more and the event is a distraction ( refer to Gavaskar's writing on "the clown at the sightscreen" when he was facing Holding batting at 91 , and got out to the next ball ). Srikkanth had once told me in 1985 that the worst thing to piss off Gavaskar was if his opening partner , at the non strikers end at the end of an over , stops to strap his pads or tie his bootlace. Srikkanth had told me " Sunny would get furious, almost yelling why the heck you allow him 2 more min when he is at the end of the over" These are valid cricket points that counter Hayden's claims they were adversely affected by sightscreens...in fact we can see now, it was Indian batters who would have been affected more, waiting for the sightscreen to be moved, being distracted and allowing Johnson or Lee more breathing time on a hot day to bowl last 2 balls. But I doubt if there is a case to castigate Hayden , for saying this was the reason for the 0-2 loss...he hasnt said that. Period.

^ NO.....Aussies were thoroughly outplayed. The slow over rate compelled Ponting to use 2nd level bowlers from ONE end, but thats still not convincing for me as to what he might have achieved with Lee or anyone at the other end...Dhoni and Bhajji could have still played them well...so I think all that is a bit too much hype and takes away from the totally better cricket Dhoni's men played.

The real reason for the slow over rates was that Ponting kept discussing tactics and field placements with his bowlers every 2 overs. The sightscreen had very little to do with it.
