That would be Virender Sehwag. But, a bit disappointed to see him go. Would have been better if he had hung around till his average dropped below 50.
fineleg Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 DSR is mithai battoing LOL! I am sure dsr is ecstatic. Hayden was a terrific opener and many bowlers feared him (pacers and spinners alike). Big shoes to fill for Team Australia. I dislike Hayden's personality, but terrific batsman neverthless. (same for Punter) But he will leave the game as arguably Australia's greatest opener with a record (8624 runs at 50.74) that seemed a moon ride away when he played just seven Tests in his first five years as a Test player.

While the others were struggling against Harbhajan, Hayden handled him with ease using the sweep shot with ease. Was quite athletic for his age as well. Aussies lose another stalwart.
satishg Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 he was a very good batsman..but the great tag that was associated with him when he was bull dozing the attacks all over was just too much..his peak and the poor quality of the bowling attack all over the world coincided and that was one of the main reason why he had a very high average in the early 2000s.. anyway bye bye Haydos..i never liked him coz of his imposing figure and the likening he took to our bowling attack..good riddance
factual Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Hayden retires It's good he retired from all forms of the game today now instead of bagging him for continuing to play I and other aussies can look back and praise him on a top career. Australia's best ever opener, most runs clearly and it was always pleasing over the last 10 years to just know that him and langer were going to set us up nicely for a test win in just about every match we played.
