Gambit Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 What about them? You had said - 'But as a composer? Any standouts that he's produced that have just gotten you to listen to them again and again? What's his best song? Probably Bol Na Halke Halke, which was brilliant.' and I responded to that by reminding you about DCH,TZP etc. If you don't think Rock On is a great(in fact you used the word terrible :hysterical:) album(Tumhari meri baatein is a killer), then you and I have vastly different tastes. And since you love songs that 'touch' you, I'm amazed that Tanhayee(DCH),Kholo Kholo(TZP),Tumhari meri baatein(RO),Lakshya(Lakshya) didn't 'touch' you. And the rest of your post praised the finer aspects of Rahman's compositions which is fine as I haven't stated that SM is a better composer. But he along with E and L has delivered some songs almost as good as Rahman's finest works.
Cricketics Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 I see only people from south supporting A.R Rahman and disagreeing with Mahadevan being as good as Rahman:giggle: sorry, but i had to say this. Not being racsist her. but just being Mu fat.
Holysmoke Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I see only people from south supporting A.R Rahman and disagreeing with Mahadevan being as good as Rahman:giggle: sorry, but i had to say this. Not being racsist her. but just being Mu fat. But both Rahman and Shankar are south Indians :haha:
Cricketics Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 But both Rahman and Shankar are south Indians :haha: but Rahman doesn't live outside south. his main home is in South. but Shankar chose to live in Mumbai. and he speaks Hindi often most of the time and Rahman doesn't.
nikred Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 but Rahman doesn't live outside south. his main home is in South. but Shankar chose to live in Mumbai. and he speaks Hindi often most of the time and Rahman doesn't. What difference will that make to any south indian like me or for that matter to any telugu or a kannadiga.:dontknow:

But he along with E and L has delivered some songs almost as good as Rahman's finest works. That's actually true. Our tastes are completely different. And yes Rock On was a disaster. But hey to each his own, you like it you like it, good for you. And you yourself say at the end, ALMOST as good as Rahman. This I agree with, infact a lot of producers have produced work that are ALMOST as good as Rahman. I think Bol Na Halke Halke is a brilliant track, lots of different instruments, and the SEL classic guitar sequence (uses it here, Agar Main Kahoon, Kholo Kholo) is great as well. Mahadevan's work is fantastic, brilliant at times, but not close to Rahman. This could be a personal opinion as well. Just like you think Sukhwinder is better then them both in singing.
punjabi_khota Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Also' date=' just for the record, Sukhvinder pwns Mahadevan and ARR as a singer.[/quote'] No one could have sung Omkara better. That song puts him above the other two giants in the singing department.

Not being racsist her. but just being Mu fat. ofcurce, because, us tamilians will always choose someone named Rahman over someone named mahadevan (pakka iyer name).I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that AR Rahman's songs are done in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi while Shankar Ehsan loy is relatively unknown in tamil cinema. The guy has given us innumerable great songs for 18 years which are popular not only in 1 language but in 3 and the whole of India.

Don Sharma Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 There is one legend named Ilayaraja. It is a pity that he doesn know Hindi and not many know him outside South India.
Willow_on_fire Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 This is music related news as well...http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Entertainment/Bollywood/Why-Gulzar-and-Sukhwinder-were-missing-at-the-Oscars-/articleshow/4181278.cms Why Gulzar and Sukhwinder were missing at the Oscars 24 Feb 2009, 1126 hrs IST, PARAG MANIAR Print Email Discuss Share Save Comment Text: Gulzar More Pics As India was still celebrating the success of Jai Ho, India’s bona fide contribution to the British production Slumdog Millionaire, two of its key participants, singer Sukhvinder Singh and lyricist Gulzar, found themselves watching the event unfold on television, miles away from Los Angeles where they were meant to be. The irony is sharper for Singh, who was supposed to perform live along with AR Rahman at the 81st Academy Awards ceremony at Kodak Theatre. The singer and lyricist could not make it to the event because their paperwork was botched. Their absence has raised quite a few eyebrows in the music industry. A reliable source close to the singer said, “Sukhwinder was charged up and was looking forward to the live performance at the Oscar event. Rahman had worked out an updated version of Jai Ho and the two were to sing the new version at the event.†However, Sukhwinder was surprised to learn that he had not received the official work permit letter from the Oscar authorities. “A work permit letter is required because Sukhwinder was to perform there. Sukhwinder had even completed all the formalities, sending across a photocopy of his passport along with the required important documents. But somebody goofed up.†Whether the balls-up came from Rahman’s end or Foxlight Productions is still a mystery. Sukhwinder has some esteemed shoulders to cry on. Gulzar too failed to receive an official letter from the Oscar committee. “Gulzar was looking forward to the event too, but missed it because no letter came.†Sukhwinder, when contacted, confirmed that attending and performing at the Oscar night remained a dream. “Yes it is true that I did not receive any official intimation from there and therefore I could not make it to the event. I don’t know what went wrong. Rahman and I are like brothers and he is not responsible for this. In fact, he was the one who insisted on my performance at the event. Somewhere, someone must have goofed up but I don’t know who is responsible for it.†Gulzar remained unavailable for comment. Composed by AR Rahman and penned by lyricist Gulzar, the song Jai Ho won the Oscar in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score category.
fineleg Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 There is one legend named Ilayaraja. It is a pity that he doesn know Hindi and not many know him outside South India. True Legends - I.R. and A.R.R. Fantastic music from both of them - different kind of music, but still great. ARR is more known coz he knows Hindi, ur spot on.
triam Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 hm.. I did see a live performance of the breathless song... It is quite impossible for someone to sing for 4-5 minutes without taking a breath, holding your breath for 4-5 minutes is possible but only elite atheletes, especially deep sea divers after significant training can do that. Before breathless there was another breathless song by SPB for 40 seconds or so, even that is almost impossible.
