Mamu Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Reporter Martin Amis of the BBC was in an unlikely venue following a local team practicing cricket drills. Not England, Not India, Not Australia... Martin Amis was reporting from a dust bowl, not because the pitch offered considerable assistance to the spinners, but in a literal dust bowl just north of Kabul. "We dont follow the ball, we just follow the dust... where the dust is, the ball is!" said Dost Muhammed, captain of the recently victorious Afghanistan cricket team that overwhelmed expectations and emerged as the Dark Horse of the ICC World Cup Preliminaries. His team almost qualified for the final stages of the World Cup, scheduled to be held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2011. Dost Muhammed felt that while the majority of the players were excited about the recent victories, there was however a lingering hunger. Nay, not a hunger, a burning desire. "It is my dream, it is our dream, to go to Pakistan and beat them. We dont want to beat any other team as much!" The rivalry against the traditional opponents Pakistan was evident as the bowling and fielding drills continued and a few bemused spectators watched from the edge of the field. Training in mountains and any clearing available in the mountainous country the team has much to improve upon as half the attempted catches were dropped and on occassion the bowl would pass right between the parted feet of the fielders, but Muhammed is hopeful that a brighter future is ahead. "We want to play cricket a lot..." Trust me the Afghanis hate them just as much as we do. They have destroyed their country just as bad as they have ours. So I am not surprised by that reaction. This reminds me of an interesting conversation I had with an Afghan Taxi Driver in the Taxi. Driver - "Where are you from ? " Me -- "India". Me -- "Where are you from?" assuming he was from Pakistan Driver -- "Afghanistan". I was surprised -- cuz I dont see very many Afghans driving Taxis around or for that matter even roaming around. Me-- "Oh, I see -- so you had to stay in one of those Refugee Camps in Pakistan and made your way here?" Driver -- "No -- I will never visit Pakistan. I hate that place. " Me -- "Why do you say that -- I thought they helped you guys a lot during your bad times." Driver - "Help? Those **** holes have ruined us. If I had my way -- I would take Pakistan to about a mile high in space and drop it from there and destroy that country so that us all neighbors can live peacefully." Me == " I understand your feelings, but am surprised to see that coming from an Afghan"
hassan_113 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Some 'afghans' are ungrateful bastards. They can go and chew on their crap in Kabul. Most like to cling on to being Afghan and most have no balls to go back. Mamu, how many do you know? 1 Pathan? Grow up. Many Pathans I know love ling themselves Afghan but aren't as unintellectual as your taxi driver- which is probably a reason why he has no clue about the world

punjabi_khota Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 if afghanistan can even be called a country. More like a drug infested desert Humm...replace drugs with jehadis and thats pretty much the opinion in india abt the land of pure.

He was an Accountant who used to work for Coopers and Lybrand working in Iran and Turkey (I think). How many intelligent accountants do u find in your nation ? huh? I have to admit I dont know very many Afghans -- but the few I know and am aware of them like the Kabob place owners and his few friends and another guy who i used to work with long long long ago ABSOLUTELY loathe Pakistan -- And the media statements coming out from their politicians to their cricketers justify that sentiment. It is only Pakis like who continue to live in a state of denial and keep beating the drums of "Afghans and Pakis are friends" -- which has got no substance or basis of truth other than your wild figment of imagination.
Mamu Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Humm...replace drugs with jehadis and thats pretty much the opinion in india abt the land of pure. What do you mean by India? Thats just about the opinion all over the world including most Muslim Nations if not all. It is not for nothing Pakistan was ranked 3rd (was it) least favorable nation in a survey done world over and 5th most dangerous country in the world. It is not for nothing -- most Foreign Affairs Dept -- have a warning AGAINST travelling to that shyte hole and this includes Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait BTW.

I lived in Oman for the first nine years of my life. Go on. Tell me more about the general consensus towards Pakistanis, not the mundane stuff you can just Google

THX_1138 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 First of all thx to Allah Why boyz is fighting??? as peculiar as they may be, afghanistan captain dost muhammed did not once make a divine reference or communal suggestion. i have a feeling that afghanistan while far from secular, if given the opportunity, might not be communal sink hole that unfortunately pakistan is evolving into.

veeru_rocks Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Pakis are the lot who have no problem blowing up mosques full of pakistanis who are of different islamic school of thought. Sunnis blow up Shia's mosque and they both together blow up Ahmedi's mosque.. From such a sick population one expecting respect for aliens like afghani is too much to ask..
