zubinpepsi Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Is that is based on the assumption that you will HAVE to live with family if you come back? well i will move back only if/when i have to live with my family otherwise i wont move back... yes there is some kinda ppressure from the family to live ur life in a certain.. but thankfully my family doesnt interfere in my stuff except the marriage issue.. im talking abt how people live a false life to appease others and forget to think abt wat they want and do wat stuff to make a good impressions in the society... u do engg/dr then ur respected in the society.. n how much money they shud earn, how many houses they need to buy... n how ppeople takes note of each n everything u do... i dont like these kinda things.. i want to do wat i like in my own way.. and i dont want others to b judgmental on me. for i dont give a feck abt how they r.. and i expect the same.. but its not possible.. u get labelled as a weirdo.. my mom even calls me a nutcase when i talk abt these....:cantstop:

Can not remember when was the last time I was outside, needed to use a toilet and it was dirty. 4. No one tells me how to live my life. I live life on my terms. lets hava vote.. n lets see how many of u agree with ur points honestly.. i know tht in the place where my parents r, they cut the power 2 hrs every day.. it used to b 7 hrs some 5 months ago.. no 24hrs water supply...omg is this for real???? lol.. maybe u havent gone to the public toiled.. even i dont use them for i have seen how worse can they be..

The travelling in Mumbai can take a toll esp. during the peak hours other than that the rest are fine, have been to phoren twice(for a vacation), but havent had even the slightest inclination to leave home.

I am saying that these facilities are available everywhere in India. Smaller places have their disadvantages. I live in Mumbai and I dont have to worry about water or electricity. Last year in Maharashtra there were power cuts as long as six hours. But Mumbai had 24 hours electricity. And in almost every part of the city you will find clean toilets to use. There are unclean ones everywhere, but why should you go there? However, the point is that, such facilities are available in India...even if in select cities. And as far as living life on your own terms is concerned, that always depends on you.

Public transportation system is efficient and fast, but not comfortable. And travelling by your own can is time consuming. That is a negative.

Punisher Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I was born, grew up and live in England. I love coming to India, mind you only been there twice. The weather is much better and the whole lifestyle, its impossible to get bored like you can do here. I really wanted to go to Mumbai whilst i was in Goa but unfortunately i couldn't as the Mumbai attacks happened whilst i was supposed to go. I loved travelling from Punjab to Delhi and Agra was jus amazing. I would love to live in India but with most of my family/friends here in the UK i think it would be impossible.

Ive got grandp's and cousins who i vist on hols but no immediate family. India is not 'home' for me. England is. It is a harder life in India I feel. i go back to Madras/Chennai every so often and Zaps 'basic amenities' point is very true. i think you have to be upper middle class at least in order to not be effected or at least not be effected as much by these things. And to get to the upper middle class stage its hard work. education system there seems very intense, and i do feel there is alot more structure to it and the job market here. Having said all that I mus confess i do not know India incredibly well, having lived there for only a few years a short while ago.

More opportunities. One can still be successful without being a doctor or an engineer 2. Quality of Life. Basic amenities such as 24 hr electricity, decent waste management system, a clean environment, less pollution etc; Not having to sleep in mosquito nets when visiting rural towns also helps :mad: 3. Hygienic public toilets Despite all the progress, the fact that India still continues to be labeled as a "third world country" that is plagued with poverty, communal violence, corruption, the divide between the rich and the poor amongst others is a little difficult for me to accept. statistically, income discrepancy is higher in the united states... the rich are profoundly rich whereas the poor are quite poor indeed. as for the plagues: poverty etc, part of the reason is the undiscriminating purchaser in the affluent nations who continues to purchase products prepared in sweat shops in india.

When I was in academia, yeah, professional life was a very strong reason to stay in the US and the biggest reason of coming here in the first place, with the best of brains and universities within your access. But whether I become a corporate slave in India or US is not the issue anymore. I guess with a decade of some of the most important years of my life spent abroad, this has become "home" in an intangible way. Most of my friends are here, my wife and I are both in a comfort zone etc. etc. It has been a topic of discussion amongst us occasionally but our moving back to India phase has been out of sync so far, so the idea has never been given a serious thought. But yeah, I still can't think of any reason not to move back to India.

Depends on where you are and if you can afford it. I'm from Ghaziabad/Meerut and there in the summer we don't have electricity for 12 hours a day in the summer. I don't think we have the 24 hour option in Ghaziabad anyways Anyways I think it comes down to money....if you have good money then India is great. You can afford everything that you have in Canada and experience all the great things India has to offer. But if you don't have money, then the average life in Canada would be better then it would be in India. Money aside, I was born in Canada and I've lived in Guelph (near TO) almost my whole life. My family is here, my friends are here...my life is here. Besides Brampton is mini-India anyways! So I don't think moving back to India is a possibility, especially at this stage of my life (still in school). But in the future? maybe
Ram Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 No reason strong enough to prevent me from returning. But, a few hindrances; - Most of all weather, especially Chennai's weather. I sweat a lot. Combine that Chennai's 40 deg C and 85% humdity weather and you know that it is not a good combination. When I was there two weeks ago, just leaving home and taking a stroll to my Grandma's place (which is about 50 m from my house) was a tough experience. My dad suggests we move to B'lore, which isnt a bad option, considering that my sister lives there now and jobs are better there too. But I simply CANNOT imagine living anywhere else but Chennai. I'd rather live abroad, than live in B'lore or Mumbai. Some might say ‘Well, you lived in Chennai all your life, you weren’t complaining bout the weather then were you?’. Yes, I did live in Chennai all my life AND I was very uncomfortable then and I am very uncomfortable now. - I have never worked in India and the prospect of doing so scares me. All the time, I hear stories of my friends back home leaving to early and staying there till 10, 11 in the night. Sometime, they work in the weekends too. Agreed that this is mostly in IT, but still, I cannot live such a life. There is no way I can spend 15-16 hours of my day commuting to work and working. That’ll just drive me mad. But yea, all the other things people mention like traffic, hyegine or public convenience or whatever - They're just trivial. I will be brutally honest and say the ONLY reason that brought me here was money and professional advancement. When I first considered moving abroad for my studies, nice roads and beautiful weather were certainly not in my mind. If it were, I should have moved to Western Europe, were such things are even better. It was just the lure of the $ that brought me here. And it’s the case with 99% of Indians and if they’re going to deny that then they’re just lying through their teeth. Once I think both these issues (professional and financial security) have reasonably addressed, then there’s nothing left to do here.There is no denying that life is much easier here – better standard of life, more money, less tension, more peace of mind. But I have absolutely no doubts in my mind that returning back home is the right thing to do.
