I rate him as a great prospect. He got good pace and good out-swingers for the right-handers. He needs to bowl with more variety to really trouble the batsmen, especially in-swingers and yorkers and flat dead tracks aren't helping much either. He's just a 17 year old boy, will learn with time.

The same tracks where Pakistani batsmen couldn' score 400 once, where Kulasekara and Thusara were made to look like the most lethal bowling pair ever and some tracks where Martyn , Southee and co caused a lot of heartburn across the border? :finger: He is an exciting propspect but he must remember that (Talent- performance)= Sami :--D

You talk like tracks really make a difference in our batting. :nervous: I am only talking about bowling.

Bowled a very good spell. First beat Ponting for pace. The next ball, Ponting pre-meditates and comes across to pull but Aamer keeps it straight and Ponting misses again. In the next couple of overs, the plan is to get Ponting via the short ball. Ponting hits the first one for a four. But Aamer still puts in a short one again, and Ponting tries to pull and it goes straight to the fielder. Then, after getting rid of Ponting, he gets Hussey playing and missing for a LBW. Just a littlewhile after, he bangs a short delivery into Watson's shoulders. And just again, the balls kisses the helmet of Watson, Watson missing on the pull shot again. Very good spell indeed : fiery and aggressive. Top stuff!

Ponting fell for a foolish shot. He placed his ego ahead of common sense & paid the price. The delivery that got Hussey was a jaffa. If Aamer does this more often, he will be worth the hype.

Declaring Prematurely in first innings seems little too early now. Why to be under pressure when you could have sealed the game in first innings.

^ I dont think the declaration matters. Aussies lead by 256 at this point (@ 60/3), still good enough to post a 1-0 lead. They will bat till lunch tomorrow & set a 400ish target

^it does not, but why to bat under pressure, why give opposition a sniff. Test cricket is played across two innings, so if are you on top, make it big. Why put unneccesary pressure on yourself. It would have given batting practice to North, Clarke and Haddin. They did not bat much in first innings, now if they come bit under pressure, anything can happen.

I agree. Scoring big in the first innings makes the most sense. Conditions are a lot easier, can score the same # runs quicker etc. Ponting overestimated the time it would take to bowl the Pak batting lineup out. Regardless he can get away with such things against this Pak batting lineup. Australia has a good enough pace attack (backed by good catchers) to easily win this test.

But the good work was done by Aamer in the previous over. Ponting was beaten twice in one of the previous overs for pace trying to pull one from Aamer. Then on the next delivery, he was again stumped trying to pull yet another one.

I like this kid he is making the aussies hop and it is always a sight when that happens.
