Gambit Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Our performance notwithstanding, this tourney has been fun so far. Ind-Pak game had it's riveting moments. England have sprung a surprise. RSA went down in flames. Australia have been patchy. NZ are starting to live up to their potential. SL are hanging on by a thread as are India. Most importantly, we have seen a green mamba of a track at the Wanderers. ODIs needs tracks like these. I would rate this as a really good tourney thus far.
Tapioca Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Agree, and if you are not Indian, this is probably even more enjoyable than the 2003 WC.
yoda Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 It has been full of surprises. I will leave it at that.
Lord Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 good but the toss has been too crucial so far.
The Outsider Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 The side losing the toss at the Centurion ends up needing a miracle to pull off a win - how can this be the best ODI tourney of the last 6 years?
Zelig Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 :agree: http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=798958&postcount=57. But the best tournament in the past decade has to be the 2002/ 03 CT in Nairobi.
ViruRulez Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 good but the toss has been too crucial so far. Moreover there has been hardly any close matches or last ball finish matches till now.. all matches are almost too predictable .. team bats first and makes a huge total and next team struggles and gets bowled out... that has been the pattern in most matches
Gambit Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 The side losing the toss at the Centurion ends up needing a miracle to pull off a win - how can this be the best ODI tourney of the last 6 years? Got any contenders for this crown? :D

bunny Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 It has been full of surprises. I will leave it at that. +1
The Outsider Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Got any contenders for this crown? :D Name one better. I enjoyed the CT in '04 and '06. Also the CB series and the India-Pakistan series of '04.
Sooda Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I guess two team ODI series arent TOURNEYS per se. Might well be the best tourney, but there aint much competition. Ideally you want to see MUCH more of a contest between bat and ball regularly and not just as exceptions. As been pointed out bit too toss dependent. Didnt Sachin say recently that day night ODIs in general are way too dependent on the toss of the coin. The CB series was good but perhaps a bit too rain effected
Tapioca Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I enjoyed the CT in '04 and '06. Also the CB series and the India-Pakistan series of '04. Except a rain and DL affected England-SL match, every one of the matches involving the big-8 in the 2004CT was won by teams batting second. Thanks to it, WI became champions defeating South Africa, Pakistan and England in successive matches.
Cricketics Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 The 2005 VB TRI SERIES IN Australia between - AUS, SAF and Lanka was pretty entertaining. Even though Aus topped the points table, there were some classy games in it.
bear23 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Even if we leave aside india losing, There have been no special games. There is one kind of pitch where team batting first scores 300+ and wins. Then there is a batting nightmare of a pitch where the team batting first collapses. That has been the story of this CT
gs Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I wish Centurion pitch had some venom in it offset the disadvantage of losing the toss. Otherwise fairly interesting tournament so far. Thankfully, its only the top 8 teams competing and this tournament doesnt drag forever like WC.

SA always produces quality tournamnts coz of their qualitty of pitches and add to balance dat the outfields are really fast!! SL and WI are the worst places to have big tournamnts!!
