Punisher Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 To all you educated Indian Cricket lovers can someone please enlighten me as to why Dhawan does not get into the Indian squad? I don't know whether this question has been asked before so apologise if it has. If someone says well, he's not good enough. I'm sorry but i jus don't buy that, we have seen India play in the last two ICC events without really threating so i believe one day Dhawan should at least be given a chance. If an answer is who would you drop if everyone is fit? I believe it would be based on who's playing the best cricket and Yusuf has not been firing recently. I'm not blaming Yusuf but each player goes through good and bad spells. Dhawan has done great in the IPL's and whether you agree with me or not, this boy is a class act.

I think there are many lined up b4 him and he will have to do exceptionally well in ranji trophy and events like challengers trophy. (I have no knowledge on his records in such games.)

sandeep Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 its one thing to ask a question why player x is not being selected. Who would you want to drop instead - Sehwag? Gambhir? SrT? Yuvraj? Say what you want about the selectors but at least they are making sure that if they pick a young guy, for better or worse, they make sure he gets enough chances. I'm not a big fan of Virat Kohli - boy's got attitude issues, but he can bat. And right now he's the young gun who has earned the shot that Ravi Jadeja enjoyed before him. Give Kohli a few more games, before you decide that some other flavor of the month should be in the team.

I don't rate Jadeja at all and jus because you do well in these Ranji trophies doesn't mean you'll be a hit for India. As for dropping the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuv, SRT of course not. Only a madman would do something like that but if Jadeja, Kohli, Murali Vijay have had a chance then why not Dhawan? If he fails then i'll shut my mouth but until he ever gets a game (looks unlikely) then i say give the boy a chance.

Shikhar Dhawan (b. 5 December 1985 in Delhi) is an Indian first class cricketer who played in the 2004 U/19 Cricket World Cup where he was the leading run scorer, his total of 505 runs from seven innings is a record for a single U-19 World Cup. He is a left-handed batsman who after 37 List A games for Delhi has achieved an average of 45. He played for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League and made 4 half centuries. He was also the third highest scorer of the Delhi Daredevils team. He was traded to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Ashish Nehra. He will play for Mumbai Indians from the IPL second season onwards.

Powar and Munaf are bowlers whereas Jadeja was picked for his all-rounder abilities (which India dearly misses and needs one). No matter how good Dhawan performs, selectors' hands are strapped because they cannot drop anyone from the current line up given the number of tournaments India have won. The line up reads like GG, Veeru, SRT, UV, Raina, MSD which means that none of them can be dropped and no replacements can be brought in. There is a all-rounder spot up for the grabs and if Dhawan can prove his all-rounder abilities to a certain level then he will be more than welcomed to the team, if not then he'd have to wait. Tough luck, I guess.

The Dark Horse Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Shikar Dhawan is solid, unlike some other youngsters in the fray. Also he has a very good pull and is consistent. Whether he will be selected remains to be seen. He has to perform exceptionally well in big tourneys like Irani trophy, Duleep, or top the Ranji chart etc..I'm particularly impressed with this guy afte seeing the challengers.

Its ok being a computer warrior but be a bit educated to see where all not on here to have a dig at other members.

Hes seems a good batsman, but Id say Vijay is ahead in the pecking order- he has made the ODIs squad to WI and of course played in a test vs Aus.
