But what happened with Sir Aggy in the first innings :hitler: edit

31.5 from Vinay Kumar, fuller delivery hit in the air to the left of Vinay Kumar , who dives but cannot catch it, Oh! in the meantime the ball goes to mid-off to Joshi, who throws it to the keeper, who just sees Agarkar outside the crease and runs out Agarkar. It was actually referred to the third umpire, who pressed the red button, the umpires out in the middle think the ball is in play. Agarkar has a long chat out there but he has to go. 106/6

That doesnt tell the full story. Agarkar harmlessly hit the ball to mid-off. There was not an attempt by either batsmen to take a single. The fielder threw the ball back to the keeper, the keep caught. Agarkar, meanwhile, was seen practicing his stroke. Everything is normal, upto this point, when all hell breaks loose. The keeper, after catching the ball, sees the 'practicing' Agarkar's back foot leave the crease. He waits till its completely outside the crease, throws the stumps down and appeals for the run-out. In my opinion, that was poor sportsmanship by the Karnataka team. Sure, you can compliment the keeper for his presence of mind, but should have appealed for a 'run-out' when there no run attempted?

so we are all ok with our own guys behaving like what we despise about the aussies? these cheapos have a lot to learn from winners like SRT and RD.

That is very poor indeed. Shame!

I suppose you really cannot fault the Karnataka players per se. The fault lies with the murky laws that leave a lot of to assumed. There are a lot of grey areas in the laws of cricket that leave room for such controversy. If the laws of cricket can have explicit references to th batsmen playing/not playing a shot vis-a-vis its lbw rules, then why not have similar caveats for run-outs also. I am sure the umpires out in the middle are smart enough to know whether a run is being attempted.

Bu rarely players take advantage of this. Of course technically they are not at fault and neither was Chappell when he asked his bowler to bowl under arm. That does not justify what Mumbai did, but it did inject the bad blood into the game. I hope ICC takes note and changes the law.

exactly, when aussies gave a send off to harbhajan singh they were like big villains but when the mumbai team gives an even baser and worser send-off nobody is bothering about it. i think if the mumbai team doesnt get punished then its a blatant case of "partiality"! P.S - i think the karnataka keeper was unsportsmanlike too. but there is no reason to say **** off to a rival team's player, a skipper at that. i just cant imagine a team which is captained by the soft spoken jaffer, just did that.

Having said that what Karnatake did was unsportsmanlike, Mumabi's act can not be justified and deserves strict punishment. I believe all the players should be fined and the captain should be banned for a couple of matches. Such behavior is not acceptable- especially in domestic matches where after the same players are supposed to play in unity in international matches.

LOL - the captain banned for a bit of swearing? Whereas other players sledge and get fined even at international level? Did any of you lose money betting on Mumbai, or did some other tragedy happen to lead to these one-eyed moronic sentiments here?

make the curator at Mysore the head of the pitches committee instead of Daljit Singh. Also Can we have similar tracks at least for the upcoming Duleep trophy matches? it will only make our domestic structure that much stronger.

I think its more than just a bit of swearing when a team gets into a huddle and together tells a batsman to **** off (if that's how it happened. I haven't seen it, I have learned only from the posts here). That's something the captain has to take responsibility for.

Agarkar has the last laugh, fittingly! to start with , what karnataka players had done to Agarkar was in really poor taste. he was not going for a run.as such, if i am correct, there is a rule which says if the batsman is not attempting a run, he should not be adjudged 'run out'. even if Aggy was asked to play again, probably he would have got out cheaply as the ball was swinging and helping the karnataka seamers. but they acted too smart and clearly wound up Agarkar. this incident determined the kiind of response from the Mumbai team and such acts really trigger the team unity. they hunted well and Agarkar himself was motivated enough to win this badly! Karnataka players are no saints when it comes to sledging and the partsan Deccan Herald and other local papers were asking for more action on Aggy when he was merely pointing out to the umpire , what was said by the karnataka fielders after he got out.bunch of whingers.......

No surprise there! Mumbai team is always known for their cheap behavior and arrogance. They act like domestic aussies. When every one is happy with the ground, pitch and venue, these Mumbai players wanted better as if they are some international team. It was a great atmosphere in Mysore, but Jaffer wants to play Ranji finals in neutral grounds

There's no doubt the Mumbai cricketers would have been pleased as they arrived in Mysore on Friday. The city of palaces is a very popular tourist destination and it's not often that cricket matches are held in towns, which are a far cry from the hectic pace of Mumbai. But they are surely not pleased with the venue of their Ranji Trophy final against Karnataka. To be more specific, the outfield of the Gangothri Glades Stadium. The ground is hard, uneven and has barren patches at many places, which will make a player think twice before going for a dive. Mysore was picked as a last-minute venue after the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore was deemed unfit for a match. "They could have surely picked a better venue. This is a sub-standard venue where even basic facilities are not available. Gymkhanas in Mumbai have better outfields than the one here," a member of the Mumbai team said on condition of anonymity. "Nothing can be done now but the BCCI must look into this matter. They could have sent someone a few days earlier to check if the venue is suitable for a game as important as this." While there are chances that Mumbai would be looking to lodge a protest, for now they will have to worry about finding ways to deal with the situation.

Another instance of arrogance :finger:

Throughout the match, they seemed to needle the Karnataka players in the middle but complained constantly against real or perceived slights, either by the players or the crowd. Their muscular celebration at the end seemed to embody the so-called “Spirit of Bombay” and one could certainly understand their elation given the close and hard fought battle. Abhishek Nayar’s antics, however, were the most disgraceful acts I have ever seen on a cricket field. He thrust his crotch at a section of the crowd, and at one point even seem to hold his balls in his hand, shouting repeatedly: “Come on.” His behavior in general seems to be as ugly as his batting stance, and notwithstanding his cricketing accomplishments, if such behaviour isn’t questioned or curbed, then shame on the authorities, and the media, if it remains silent.
