He wasn't going after the ball. Though you can argue that he is backing up for the throw. Blaming the batsman for this is wrong. He will try to take the shortest route to get to the other end. The bowler only made it difficult for him by blocking his way , intentionally or not. It's better if you see the video before commenting.
