SachDan
IMO a definite YES :two_thumbs_up: Having watched all those mammoth innings' by Viru himself and those of Gilly, Astle and Lara, I feel this innings from Viru is the best ever played in the history of test cricket :isalute: Its not just the sheer volume of runs he scrored for the day (284!) that sets this innings apart. Can't think of another innings where a batsman virtually 'PLAYED' with an attack! You try blocking his favorite shots with a defensive field and the next thing he do is play a breathtaking stroke through unexpected region with gay abandon :cantstop: Link to comment
urbestfriend
It seems today everyone wants to open a new thread in praise of Viru :hatsoff: Link to comment
The Outsider
From the longer ones, I think Astle's was more brutal. Sehwag's was definitely more accomplished but the way Astle tore into the English attack was something! Of course, the match situations were completely different but for sheer destructiveness Astle's was a sight to behold. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Astle played on a much smaller ground. But i think this one skilled innings. The way he toyed with Sangakkara's field settings and negative line was astounding. It was pure arrogance. Astle's knock was excellent. But that pitch had no pace or turn. This pitch had lot of bounce for spinners. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
But my favorite though is Gilly's 57 ball century. The way he mauled Panesar was breath taking. Link to comment
Ram
Nathan Astle's innings was just something else. Link to comment
