Wanted: Bowling and Fielding coaches

"India missing bowling, fielding coaches" "India missing bowling, fielding coaches" MS Dhoni said India is missing bowling and fielding coaches, resulting in an increased workload for chief coach Gary Kirsten. Talking to reporters on the eve of the team's departure for the tri-series in Bangladesh, Dhoni said Kirsten had his plate full and the team was indeed missing bowling and fielding coaches. "To some extent, it does (affect the team). You need specialist coach to get the best out of the players. Gary looks after so many things. He has all those team meetings, talking to batsmen, bowlers and then working out strategies. He has a lot on his plate," Dhoni said. "It does help to have specialist bowling and fielding coaches for the bowlers and fielders. But that's the way it and it's now an administrative issue," he said. Both the posts are lying vacant since BCCI sacked bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad and fielding coach Robin Singh in October after the team fared badly in the Twenty20 World Cup in England and the Champions Trophy in South Africa. Even though BCCI roped in Australian Mike Young for a short stint during the recent Twenty20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka, the team is now again without a fielding coach. "Mike is not available for this tour. He came with the basic techniques and went slow as he did not want the players to get injured. He won't be around but with the help of other support staff it's important to go ahead with that. Fielding is one aspect of the game that is important whatever be the format of the game," Dhoni said. Accepting the need to lift the team's fielding standard, Dhoni said, "We dropped quite a few catches in the last series. We will try to rectify that. Whatever good fielders we have we will try to make them the best in the world because it really helps, especially in the middle overs, with four good fielders inside the circle who can save the singles," he said. Dhoni was also candid enough to admit that the bowlers were grappling with issues like bowling at death and slow over-rate, which incurred the India captain a two-match ban during the ODI series against the Lankans. "We struggled early in the series but improved a lot in the later matches. We have struggled a bit in the death overs but if we can do something in patches, we can do it consistently as well. We can restrict any good side to a decent total. It's slightly improving but I think we can manage it," Dhoni said. "Regarding over-rate, we have a lot of part-timers, who are mostly spinners and they can save us time. We have (Virender) Sehwag, Yuvraj (Singh), (Suresh) Raina and Rohit Sharma as well. So if we can save time up front, it is not going to be an issue," Dhoni explained.

Hmmmm.. A public rebuke of the BCCI by our captain.. I am sure he must have raised this issue with them behind closed doors, nothing much must have happened. Then he figured its probably time to go public and set the record straight.

http://http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_india-may-get-a-bowling-coach-after-all_1329911 The timing of MS Dhoni’s open demand for bowling and fielding coaches could not be more perfect. The India skipper may have voiced what he could be getting soon. The posts have been vacant since the Board of Control for Cricket in India discontinued the services of Venkatesh Prasand and Robin Singh although the Board hired the services of former Aussie fielding coach recently. At this stage there are no tangible moves by the BCCI to appoint a bowling coach but there are indications that the Board is thinking of expanding the support staff for the Men in Blue. Reliable sources reveal that a former South Africa pacer was approached for the job by a very influential former India captain. The approach was confirmed to DNA by the South African pacer himself. “I was sounded out some time back. Now I’m looking forward to hearing from the BCCI,” he said. “I will be too happy to work with Gary Kirsten,” he added. The former India captain, who actually contacted the South African, could not be contacted immediately. After stoutly denying that there was no need for replacements for Prasad and Robin, the BCCI seems to have had a change in stand. The appointment of Young is a case in point. Ask them about a possible bowling coach, the Board is no longer dismissive about having one. “We will let you know whenever we appoint one,” BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said. Kirsten, who could be knowing about the matter, could not be reached. The Team India coach is currently holidaying in Dubai. He was instrumental in bringing Aussie Mike Young to India. Young left India immediately after the Sri Lanka series. Meanwhile, it is learnt that Kirsten will fly directly from Dubai to join the Indian squad in Bangladesh. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could this be Sunil Gavaskar sounding out Donald/Fannie De Villiers?

^ Coz he thinks he's a righteous lil pr!ck. But he's actually a silent politician in the team, who thinks people are too naive to understand what he's trying to do! I absolutely HATE this kind of pretentious behaviour.

Sunny Sir or Shaz made the move. I am absolutely certain about that ! :two_thumbs_up: Bowling coach- Wasim Akram: coz You need a subcontinental bowling coach to understand the player's thinking and temperament better. Fielding coach- Jonty Rhodes or Mike Young.

Donald enters frame for India bowling job MS Dhoni's recent pleas for the bowling coach's position to be filled - it has been vacant since October - seem to have fallen on the right ears. The BCCI, it appears, has started work on replacing Venkatesh Prasad and has begun informal discussions Allan Donald for the position. Donald confirmed he was approached by the Indian board for the position of the bowling coach and said that he was keen to take up the offer. However, he said, Indian board officials involved in the recruitment process had told him this was only a preliminary step and things could take longer than expected for the BCCI to take a final decision. It is expected that the BCCI will try and fill the position before South Africa's tour of India in February. "Yes, I had an informal chat during Champions League Twenty20 with an Indian board official," Donald told Cricinfo. "I would be interested to talk to the BCCI regarding the bowling coach job that is currently vacant and I'm keen [on the job]." The official, who met Donald in October when he had come to India for a TV commentary assignment, wanted to check if the South African was open for a full-time role. The position has been lying vacant since Venkatesh Prasad's sacking on October 15. The BCCI did not give any explanation for that decision but board sources said the slump in India's bowling since the ICC World Twenty20 was becoming a growing concern. Donald, the first South African to take more than 300 Test wickets, has experience as a bowling coach - he took up the role in England for a short period in 2007. He then spent a year with Warwickshire as head coach but decided after the last season to give it up and spend more time with his family in South Africa. That stint with Warwickshire brought Donald into contact with Sreesanth, who was on a two-month stint with the county as an overseas player. It was Donald who suggested Sreesanth might be ready for a return to international cricket. Though impressed by Sreesanth's talent, the straight-speaking Donald was critical of his training habits and said they needed to improve if he was to realise his full potential. http://www.cricinfo.com/southafrica/content/story/442345.html ----- I'm not too keen on him, he didn't do much with England, the bowlers got better once he left. Maybe it took them time to implement his ideas or he just wasn't any good as a coach

I'm not a big fan of Donald as a bowling coach... He didn't do anything special during his stint with England team..as a matter of fact, England bowlers are much better now than during his time.. even our Langa Tyagi Venki Prasad outcoached him when India won the Test series in England with Donald as Englands coach...

why didnt MSD try n stop the sacking of VP n RS earlier?why is he saying it now as for choices,i would have Bruce Reid or Akram since a lot of our pacers r lefties.as for fielding,we need to persist with Mike Young
Well, in a professional environment, if a person of a particular post gets fired, it is assumed that there is a replacement ready for that position who is going to do better. And clearly, that has not happened. Your completely biased view will not let you look at logic but will rather give you an opportunity to bash the one player you've been bashing since your joining the forums - but thats quite alright.

Um, what pretentious behavior? What was MSD supposed to do - make sure that BCCI had replacements ready before they fired Robin Singh and Prasad? Is that what the captain of the team is expected to do? Why not call him the BCCI President instead of the Indian captain then?
