Ram Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 This stat does not take into account the deciding matches of bilateral ODI series'. And I am not a 100% sure, but I think we have won 10 of our last 13 ODI bilateral series. Include the deciding matches of all the bilateral series' we have played so far and see how the numbers look. Now, if anyone here is going to tell me that a pressure of a final in a tri-nation or a quadrangular tournament is somehow different (greater) to a match 4 or match 5 of a bilateral series, then they better get their heads examined.
zen Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Tendulkar, the biggest match winner in ODIs With a record like this: Career averages Span Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s unfiltered 1989-2009 440 429 40 17394 186* 44.71 20249 85.90 45 93 20 1901 182 Profile filtered 1991-2009 16 16 4 1237 138 103.08 1266 97.70 6 5 1 109 18 he has to be one! Of the 39 finals that he has played in, Ind have won 16. And in those 16 games, the little master has 1237 runs with 6 hundreds. What's mind boggling is that he averages a Bradmanisque 103 in those 16 games and has a SR of almost 98 What a performance! It's like he single-handedly won Ind many of those games. It's hard to see any other player having such an impact on his team's fortunes. He is the biggest match winner in ODIs! (not that we need stats to show that)

MM, most of the bilateral series that we won were actually shut out in game 3/4 where our noses were in the front; so we really never had to sweat too hard. And if you think multi-team tournament's final bears the same pressure as bilateral series then I'd say you have OD'd your sambhar :P. We have nothing to hide when it comes to losing finals. Only finals that we managed to win was with SRT's contribution and almost all the time veeru and uv have been hiding which is a big concern. I am not talking about this final but I think 245 is a very poor score considering even BD managed to achieve this (we should've scored at least 20-30 more if not more)
Ram Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 MM' date= most of the bilateral series that we won were actually shut out in game 3/4 where our noses were in the front; so we really never had to sweat too hard. But seriously, how is the pressure any different? The 'occasion' might 'seem' bigger, but it plainly isnt, unless of course its WC or a champions trophy knock-out match. Bottom-line, I dont think our batsmen are any worse than anyone else, when it comes to handling pressure.
zen Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 No way. Sachin is a choker haha, every coin has two sides! For those who believe that he is a choker, in 39 finals that he has played in, Ind have lost 19 and below is his performance in those: Career averages Span Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s unfiltered 1989-2009 440 429 40 17394 186* 44.71 20249 85.90 45 93 20 1901 182 Profile filtered 1991-2004 19 19 0 517 74 27.21 717 72.10 0 5 3 55 3 517 runs @ 27 Those are not great numbers but that reflects his 'match winner status' as the below average performance didn't result in to an Ind win Which is why he is the biggest match winner, a player that can have the most profound impact on the out come of a final, reflected by his Bradmanisque performances in matches won (and those performances in games lost)! What's also interesting is that he hasn't lost a final since 2004!
Andy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 and u thought batting 1st would chance that :hysterical: I thought we wud bat beter. I forgot SRT wasnt playing.

SL series in SL in 2008, We wrapped it up in the 4th match, won 3-2 Aus 2-4 Eng 5-0 SL 4-1 NZ 4-1 WI 2-1 Aus 2-4 SL 3-1 (wrapped it up in the 4th odi) Barring Australia, we havent played too many close bi-lateral series. It has mostly been a one way traffic.

The point i am trying to make here, there isnt a quantitative difference the finals of a tournament finals and say, the deciding match of a bilateral series.
Andy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Leave it guys its just a One off match. No one wanted to win this series badly b4 the start. Even the supporters took it as another Stereotype IND v/s SL series.
Dravid Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I thought we wud bat beter. I forgot SRT wasnt playing. come on... u can do better then that :hahaha:
Andy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 come on... u can do better then that :hahaha: :dontknow:
OriginalCopy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Prediction was good, loss wasn't. For all those who are praying for Sachin's retirement, they seriously have no clue what we all will miss when he is not around. Some people are just too dumb to understand this.
satishg Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 lol at us, we should clone Sachin or at least have a life size replica of the great man whenever he is not around, that will guarantee us a victory for sure :D
