India deserving No.1: Richard Hadlee NEW DELHI: India deserves to be the number one Test side in the world but their stay at the top would depend on how they perform away from home, feels legendary New Zealand all-rounder Richard Hadlee. "The Indian cricket team is clearly the number one in the world. They deserve it due to some very good performances. The big challenge for the Indian team now is to perform outside the sub-continent," Hadlee said on the sidelines of a seminar to promote New Zealand as an investment destination. "When you are the number one team, you have to perform off shore on foreign soil. That will be the big challenge for India, to win matches outside the country against the likes of South Africa," he added. Hadlee said India will face stiff challenge from other good sides like Australia and South Africa. "Perhaps Australia would look to regain the number on position so it's an exciting time for the Indian team to really excel and lift their performances offshore. What is important for India is that they develop a good pool of players. "A pool of fast bowlers so that if there is injury, you can have replacements that are of international standard. You need to have quality fast bowlers because bowlers will win matches. You got to have all bases covered with a good pace attack. India's got most things covered," he added. Asked if he considered South Africa a better side than India, Hadlee said, "That's not for me to comment on. All sports are about winning and losing." Hadlee also steered clear of the raging debate on whether the Indian Premier Leageu deliberately snubbed Pakistani cricketers at the auction this week. "I can't comment on that. I mean decisions are made by people. Clearly it is disappointing for the Pakistanis to not be involved but I don't want to get into the politics of it. A decision has been made and I guess people will have to be careful and stand by that," he said. On whether money-spinning events like the IPL would harm international cricket, Hadlee said not until the balance is maintained. "I think what is important for the survival of world cricket is that we don't have Twenty20 cricket saturating the game. Most players would say that Test cricket is still at the top. There is certainly a place for Twenty20 cricket whether at international level or at the domestic level," he said. "But it's important to have the balance of the game right. For me Tests is the ultimate format of the game," he added. He invited Indians to explore investment opportunities in New Zealand. "There are great opportunities to invest in New Zealand. They are welcome to even migrate. New Zealand is a safe and secure country," he said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/India-deserving-No1-Richard-Hadlee/articleshow/5492471.cms

Kiwis looking for Tendulkar-like players: Hadlee NEW DELHI: New Zealand is not just looking for investment from India, it is also hoping to import a cricketer like Sachin Tendulkar by welcoming young players from the country, legendary Kiwi all-rounder Richard Hadlee said on Saturday. "We are looking for more players like Sachin Tendulkar. If you have got any young superstars coming up in India, we would love to see them in our country and may be if there is a future opportunity for them to represent New Zealand," Hadlee said on the sidelines of a seminar to promote New Zealand as an investment destination. Hadlee lavished praise on Tendulkar, saying the right-hander has an outstanding career. "His record speaks for itself. It's been outstanding consistently for a long period of time. Statistically he is the greatest run scorer in both forms of the game. "It has been an outstanding career. His performance has been fantastic overall and speaks volumes about his longevity and fitness," he said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Kiwis-looking-for-Tendulkar-like-players-Hadlee/articleshow/5492540.cms

What the hell are you guys talking about Hadlee doing for attention and stuff. Hadlee has always praised India and Indian cricketers. Even last year when he was given Hal of Fame award, on that big day of his, he talked about how great Tendulkar is and how he is the greatest cricketer ever. Unlike other morons who keep beeing anti-tendulkar etc. Hadlee still remains on of the best bowlers in cricket history.

Right up there with Syd Barnes for the title of best pace bowler .... In 80s, NZ was one of the better test sides around (with Eng and Aus going down, Ind as usual being good at home, etc) and that was mainly due to Sir Richard Hadlee, who would eat other teams for breakfast

India deserve to be number one : Brett Kapoor Former Aussie skipper and TV commentator Ian Chappell had pointed out that MS Dhoni’s men may not stay on top for long as they do not have enough resources. Chappell had said India would not be able to hold on to the Test Championship mace till they find a couple of champion bowlers, adding that the famed batting line-up is not enough to see them at the top for long. However, Lee, who also plays for the Kings’ XI Punjab, sprung to India’s defence. “India thoroughly deserve their number one ranking. They have played well consistently for a long time now and they are on top of the pile. That’s the way it should be. I know there have been some harsh comments from certain quarters and I am sorry about that.†Reflecting on his own team’s transformation sans McGrath and Warne, Lee hailed the present crop of pace bowlers. “It is great to see the youngsters do so well. We have a great depth in the attack and that has helped us win matches recently.†Lee played his last Test against South Africa at the MCG in the Boxing Day match way back in 2008 but the Baggy Greens have managed well, more so in the recent past, winning five of their six Tests. The tearaway speedster, who was seen without his shoulder braces at a function organised at a New Delhi hotel said he was recuperating well from his surgery, ahead of the third edition of the Indian Premier League. “I can say that I am well on schedule with my recovery,†was all Lee would say, when asked of he could play in the lucrative T20 tournament in India from March 12. A journalist wanted Lee’s take on the racist attacks against Indians and the flamboyant pacer said he was saddened by the attacks in Australia. “I feel very welcome in India and we in Australia welcome Indians with as much warmth and love. I am very saddened by the issues and we need to make sure such things don’t keep happening. Australia is a very safe place and we are working closely with the government to keep things peaceful.†Lee had earlier said that he would not rush his return in the IPL. Australia also go to tour New Zealand in March but the paceman’s selection seems unlikely given the emergence of Peter Siddle, Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus alongside Mitchell Johnson. . http://www.espnstar.com/cricket/international-cricket/news/detail/item387514/Lee:-India-deserve-to-be-number-one/
